I'm not sure she's American but the singer in question has a very weird voice, raspy and pitched..I could say her voice makes me think of a witch and I'm not sure but I guess she was singing in 70's or maybe 80's.. I know for sure she's quite famous and a song of her was used in a old spot where a man, if I remember correctly, eat a chewing gum and a girl gets turned on by the good smell and accordingly kisses the man so passionately that they overturned the sofa and, comically, only their legs were visible (like in an anime when a character falls down right after hearing a bad joke or when incredulous)..when the girl gets near the man, the song raises and when she kiss him, the refrain starts..
