Okay, I'm just at a loss here... My Samsung Galaxy S III just all of a sudden stops working and will not call out, receive calls, send texts, or receive texts. I updated it after this occurred and the update does not help it; and I updated the important apps along with my phone because it prompts me to update my apps to the latest versions. I don't have a upgrade at AT&T availiable and I don't have $500 or so bucks to shell out for a new Samsung or iPhone. I basically have to beg to my parents now that I need a new phone...(I'm 23 but still am considered living under my parents' roof and I'm a student right now and don't have money to call my own). I'm trying to think up a scenario where I tell my mom since I did so well at college for my first term, that I deserve a new phone. IT IS COMPLETE COINCIDENCE THAT THIS HAPPENED to forewarn you to jump to any assumptions/conclusions about this matter. My dad is really tough to persuade to getting me new things...but I feel that I somehow deserve a new phone??? Since I've been stuck with this one for a few years??? I NEED a smart phone; I am a student and have an app to use for my school work, updates, email, and notifcations from my instructors. Idk what to do...

How do I persuade my parents to get me a phone because this one stopped working, when I have no upgrades avaliable at my cellphone provider...? I'm at a loss...What do I do?

wait when did it stop? there was an update today so maybe that's the cause? i dunno

Have you tried contacting customer support? Maybe you could send the phone in for a repair, or if it's totally bricked you could try to find a refurbished one online?

Try factory resetting the phone.

I still have the S3, but I'm due for an upgrade this year. And switch to T-Mobile While you're at it at some point.

I factory reset my phone when it reaches the point where I couldn't figure out what to do.

But warning, Store everything in SD card, (unfortunately .Apk data will not be stored in SD card unless Rooted), and delete all cache and text messages, then reset the phone. It should work.

Also, back up your contacts to Google Account (ALL OF THEM) before resetting the phone.

If they are admits and sticklers about your education play that card heavy on them then play the time card for support, then enhance the full effect by showing them the issues with your phone.

P.S. I did not mean for this to sound like a yugioh match against your parents.

It stopped around 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. (Central Time).

I already sent my old Samsung Galaxy S III in for a replacement when that messed up in the past too and I got this one that I have now; so I used up that method as well.

I'm completely at a loss when it comes to Android phones (I'm just used to iPhones, iPads, etc. haha...it has a more simple interface...) but I will try this and look up tutorials to help.

1. If you want, grab USB cable for charging and hook it up to computer to transfer your photos, videos, music, etc. into the computer. App data cannot be transferred effectively though.

2. Transfer stuff you want to keep from internal memory to SD card (should be a stock app called "My files." Use it to transfer photos, videos, music. whatever (except app data which is impossible unless you root the phone which I do not recommend).

3. Delete every single text message (frees up space to reset everything during factory reset).

4. Go to your contacts and press menu, and press "Merge accounts." Then press "Merge with Google." it will back all your contacts up to your Google account, or your gmail, so after you factory reset your phone, you provide your gmail, and it will bring back your contacts.

5. Delete cache, internet browser history.

6. Unmount the SD Card

7. Go to backup and reset in Settings and reset device. Your phone will be like brand new in terms of setting up the phone. Hopefully, this will solve the situation.

It mysteriously started to work again after like 2 hours? Thank you everyone who tried to help! I'm still probably going to AT&T tomorrow.
