The Ideal DragonBall Z DVD Collection?

Posted

Fellow fans of DragonBall with agree with me when I say THERE ARE TOO MANY MOTHERF**KING DRAGONBALL Z DVD RELEASES.

*breathes in and out* Sorry, I just had to get that out.

Anyways, Funimation, the dubbing/distributing company who owns the rights to DragonBall in America, a company that I hold dear to my heart, has missed time and time and TIME AGAIN with putting out a singular, ideal DragonBall Z DVD collection ever since it got the rights back in 1996. Overpriced singles DVDs, VHS tapes, poorly done remastered (and Blu Ray) box sets, mishandled sets that would have ended it but didn't, sets that only a select fanbase are going to actually buy, and cancelled sets that were actually GOOD but never got finished; this is the current lifespan of the DragonBall Z anime on DVD in America, and the shame continues to this day. (By the way, I'm not counting DragonBall Kai because technically it's a whole 'nother story in terms of release and handling and also because it's the only way to actually enjoy the anime as a whole nowadays in DVD format, obviously excluding the show in its in original format which, if you can't tell, doesn't exist right now.)

It's always something with Funimation and the fanbase that causes this kind of mediocrity in each new set. I don't really blame Funimation entirely though. Yes, they are responsible for selling these DVDs but even so, there's one key element that makes them do it in the first place, and that is: you and me. Yes. The fan-base. The FREAKING fan-base, oh God. I'm ready to start a whole new thread about this, I've got so much to say, but I'll keep it short: the DragonBall fans, in general, are both separated and unreasonable. They can't decide what they want and they don't understand that some of the things they want are COMPLETE SHIT. That's it in a nutshell, I suppose, so lets move on.

Now, the way I see it is, we need one more good release of the DragonBall Z anime that will END this cycle once and for all so the fans can stop bitching and Funimation can stop milking. But what would this release contain you ask? Well here's how I'd do it: All 291 uncut episodes spread out to maybe, I don't know, seven boxsets? Heh, get it, because seven Dragon Balls and... well, I can't think of anything else, so roll with it. I also know I'm ripping off the Dragon Boxes but again, shut up. Anyways, we should also have the picture quality be remastered (but done PROPERLY, FRAME BY FRAME, AND NOT DONE LIKE THE ORANGE BRICKS) and stay in 4:3 format, the way it was originally intended to be as well as they way it needs to STAY (whoever thinks 16:9 is the way to go... I can't even describe my feelings about that). As for language and soundtrack, both Funimation English dub with Bruce Falconer score and original Japanese dub w/subtitles with Kikuchi score. Obviously. And then they can throw in other stuff like booklets or menus or playback options or whatever, I'm not going into detail with that. I'm just focusing on the core aspect of the DVDs: the anime that we're buying the DVDs to see and how it is handled. I'm sure just having that is good enough.

Anyways, I've rambled on enough. Now then, tell me your thoughts on the ideal DragonBall Z anime re-release that will end all re-releases.

And you're telling me that's right? You're telling me its okay to settle for a product that shitty and not ask for a better one? That's not like asking for a new burger at a fast food place after you find out the original burger got spit on by some jerkass in the kitchen!

And I don't care what Toei has; Funimation obviously knew what they're were doing with the Level sets and they should have kept on with them instead of doing these half-assed Season sets.

No, I'm simply saying some people preferred it that way plus it's easier and cheaper for Funimation.

Funimation said they stopped the Level sets due to how expensive it was to make them.

SOME PEOPLE?! Who?! The three fans that don't know the difference between good footage and shitty footage?! And if you're seriously defending Funimation, a company that has grossed millions and millions of dollars over the past decade or so, for being cheap with their releases, than you sir, have lost your damn MIND.

The people buying them. Lol.

I have no reason to defend Funimation. I don't care what they do.

The people buying them are MORONS. How many times do I have to reinforce this? The word is full of morons, of course they'd actually buy these kinds of releases and help encourage Funimation to make more re-releases after me and all the SMART fans point out how shitty a job they're doing. That's why their process needs to eeeeeeeeeeeend.

And if you have no reason to defend them, why did you just defend them against me saying they're not doing their job right literally ten minutes ago?

That's not very nice. Funimation is a business, more money for them the better.

Simply explaining their reasoning.

Well its true. They've made this same mistake more than once, I think It's fair to say they're not very intelligent, or at least informed.

Their reasoning is stupid.

For what? Stopping the level releases for cost doesn't seem to stupid to me. They didn't exactly sell that well and would have had more than ten sets.

That's not what I meant; I meant NOT continuing the Level sets after they cancelled them and instead going along with the Season sets.

But whatever, I wash my hands of this mess. I've proved my point.

I still stand by what I said when I made this thread, and anybody that wants to actually contribute to this idea is welcomed and anybody like ^ up here are not.

I will admit i was one of the people that bought the complete set of the orange bricks, but I didn't even know they made that many variations of sets, jeez. I bought them more for the sake of completion though to be honest.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but seriously: ditch those Bricks and find another medium. You're better off, trust me.

True enough, but the real sad thing is i never even watch them really. I really meant it when I said they're basically there for collection purposes.

If there's one thing that's not worth being in a DragonBall collection, its those bricks. You might as well get the Rock The Dragon Edition set instead. xD

....That's a thing that exists? Truth be told, I feel like I might have, in  a certain way, sick to hear baiut DB. No wonder, with the constant whoring of the series.

You're really behind on these DVD releases aren't you? Oi. LOL

But yeah, last year, Funimation released DragonBall Z: Rock The Dragon Edition, a set that contained the Ocean Dub of DragonBall Z, for all the Ocean Dub fanboys out there. It had the 53 edited episodes, the first three movies, and a book that went over the history of DBZ and the Ocean Dub... still better than Orange Bricks. I mean, at least it actually looks good. xD

Oh right, I remember hearing about that from  a friend now, thanks for the reminder. Either way, that's good to hear then.
