Okay so ever since that fake IMBD article that listed Kuzco's VA for KH III I've been thinking how much better the plot of Kingdom of the Sun would have fit in KH if it hadn't become The Emperor's New Groove. And that made me wonder which version people would prefer to have been released if given the choice. Now, for the sake of objectivity, let's pretend for a moment that it's 1998/99, we've never heard of KH (a terrible world I know but bear with me) and we are on the production staff of Kindom of the Sun and faced with the decision to release it in it's original form or turn it into The Emperor's New Groove.
Since most of us know the plot of The Emperor's New Groove I will detail Kingdom of the Sun.
A musical with songs written and performed by Sting in which the Sorceress Yzma blames the sun for stealing her youth and so attempts to summon the Incan God of Darkness, Supai to swallow the sun and cloak the world in eternal darkness and in exchange gain eternal youth. Meanwhile the greedy, selfish Emperor Kuzco happens to meet a peasant that looks just like him and they switch places for one day (a la The Prince and the Pauper) Ysma learns of the switch and, in order to prevent either of them from interfering with her plan, turns the real Kuzco into a Llama and threatens the expose the peasant's impersonation (as well as likely pinning the Emperor's disappearance on him which would obviously result in a death sentence) unless he does exactly as she tells him While a llama, Kuzco learns humility and falls in love with a female llama herder (hey, it's Disney) Presumably, Yzma and Supai are defeated Kuzco becomes human again marries the llama herder (again, Disney) and becomes a kinder, wiser and more generous emperor.
A few things to note
Pacha is absent as he replaced the Kuzco look-alike
Kronk is also absent and Yzma is instead assisted by three mummies named Mick, Bowie and Lemmy
The film is more of a drama than a comedy.
So, knowing all this if you had to make the final call between Kingdom of the Sun and The Emperor's New Groove, which would you have made?
As much as i like Kronk, I'd have to go with Kingdom of the Sun because of the classic Disney feel.
