So, Tokyo Ghoul... its a show alright.

I'm not really one to get into horror series. The closest I've gotten is watching or reading series that have elements of horror in them, like Soul Eater, Attack On Titan, and even JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. However, Tokyo Ghoul is a full fledged horror series, and from what I've seen, a really good one at that.

Tokyo Ghoul literally premiered today; it's animated by Studio Pierrot and licensed by Funimation for streaming in NA. The show's premise can literally be summed up in the title: Its in Tokyo and its about Ghouls... the end. lol

No not really. The real premise is that its set in Tokyo and there's these freaks running around called Ghouls, red and black eyed creatures (for the Naruto fans, you might notice it kinda looks like a mix between Sharingan and Byakugan) which are basically zombies on steroids that look like humans and love eating people. And I do mean love. Its also implied that they have some other powers, but its still unclear at the moment.

Anyways, the star of this show is a college student named Kaneki. We first see him with his pal Hide at a cafe, where we see them going on about dates while a reporting of a Ghoul event goes on and they don't even care... okay then. After Kaneki gets to go on a date with a hot chick who came into the cafe and loves reading as much as he does, Rize, he ends up getting hospitalized after Rize tries to eat him, because yes, she's a Ghoul. And in what I can describe as one of the biggest "f**k you" to any main protagonist I've ever seen: one of Rize's eyes and some of her organs are transplanted into Kaneki so he can live, and because of that, he himself becomes a Ghoul-Human hybrid. We then seeing the "change" of sorts start to develop in Kaneki: he craves human flesh, regular food tastes bad, and he can't be hurt by knives. Eventually, he has a mental breakdown, and ends up in a "feeding" area where he's intercepted by another Ghoul (Hide's creepy roommate Nishiki actually. Yeah, that's fitting) and then saved by yet another Ghoul named Toka, a girl who came up earlier in the episode (she was a waitress at the cafe who Kaneki had a thing for until Rize showed up), who forces him to eat a human hand and come to terms with him now being part Ghoul. The episode ends there, and boy is there a lot to take in from this.

There are a lot of good things I can say about his show: great animation, really tense atmosphere, blood and gore and more blood all over, its pure horror at its best. And right now, all I can hope for is that the lore and mechanics of the universe can be revealed a bit more in the next installment, like how Toka and Nishiki's dialouge implied that there's like this whole Ghoul "underworld" where they assign districts for the Ghouls to eat. So yeah, a lot more info. on that would be appreciated. And maybe I'll keep an eye out for the manga too (which started in 2011 if you didn't know).

As long as it is Ishida who made the story, that's fine.

re: is bringing some heavy shit tho. Thank God it's weekly. If it were monthly I wouldn't be able to bear with the waiting.

Same here.

TG used to be Bi-weekly, but on Sept. it went to weekly releases I think.

Found English scans of Tokyo Ghoul's epilogue that was shown in the Tokyo Ghoul:re PV.

This is spoilers obviously. http://imgur.com/a/3kYkQ

Good news for anime fans!

Scans from Young Jump confirmed that the first episode of the second season will pick up where we left off from the last episode of TG first season. So we will follow the manga for about the first few episodes and then it will diverge to the original story. Basically, we will finish up the Aogiri Tree arc and then move to original story Ishida planed for us.

Epicness! Can't wait for the bone-chilling fight scene!

For some reason, Imperialscans doesn't want to cooperate with me :/ But a new TG:re chapter is out now! I will use onemanga's upload (it's the imperialscans version) so you can check it out.

Couple news: The first volume of Tokyo Ghoul:re comes out to Japan in 2 days! Here's the official cover feature our wonderful protagonist, Sasaki Haise!

Next, I hate to say this, but there is a very good chance that we will not get a new chapter next week because of double issue, meaning Young Jump releases their magazine, and then takes week break. I expect that we will not get a chapter this week or next week. Sometime during January, we may not get a chapter as well, but we wouldn't care because we will be fangasming over second season of Tokyo Ghoul.

Finally, the last volume of Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 (episodes 10-12) will go on sale next week on Dec. 26. a few days later, I will post the final censored/uncensored comparisons (and I'm gonna try to get my friend to watch Tokyo Ghoul then >: 3 )

What happened to Kaneki? D:

You find out soon if you read the manga.

Its awesome I just finished reading the first 13 chapters and im not dissapointed! : DDDDDDD

But personally i dont feel they need the level of gore it has, horror is often better without obscene amounts of gore.

Awesome to see that you are interested in TG. They could tone the gore down just a little tho, but that doesn't stop me from reading like crazy. I normally don't read these kinds of manga.

Also, another season 2 PV appeared, but I can't seem to find it on youtube. You can go on Tokyo Ghoul's official facebook page to see the PV (the official page has a pic of Kaneki holding a body that is wrapped under sheets). However, it only showed clips of episode 12, then a couple concept arts scenes (which is not animated).

Ughh why can't Janurary come faster ;_;

Ughh why can't Janurary come faster ;_;

Just three more weeks. . . Three more weeks ;_;

Sad news guys. Ishida-san confirmed and debunked the rumors of 24 episodes. The second season is confirmed to air 12 episodes like the first season. ;_; (as long as they animate the biology lesson scene, I'll be happy camper for the rest of the anime).

Also, in regards of the preview I talked about a couple days ago (which you can see below), I mentioned about concept art in the trailer. The concept art drawn a little like the manga with written dialogue. A user from tumblr took the time to make rough translations of the panels which you can view below underneath the video. It may contain spoilers for the anime, but I can't connect two and two, so you should haven't to worry.

We also have a new poster ad with new anime visuals, some are familiar and a couple are not familiar. It confirms that Tk from Ling Tosite Sigure (Who I have recently took great interest in listening to their music) is not performing season two's opening, but a band called Osterreich (German name) is performing the opening. Amazarashi (known for strange music videos, but interesting music composition) will perform the ending. Let's see what these bands have to offer next month.

Here's the ad poster

Finally, in manga news, I found spoilers pages of TG:re chapter 11, so expect a new chapter (with a familiar character making a formal appearance and another familiar character to appear next chapter) in a few days. However, it is confirmed that this chapter is double-issue. There will be no chapter next week.

And another reminder: the last BR/DVD volume of Tokyo Ghoul will release this week after Christmas day. I will post the comparisons of censorship/uncut a couple days after it releases.

Edited by Xamtweth-ReMIXed

Funimation has once again acquired rights to stream Tokyo Ghoul Root A (Season 2). Let's just hope they can find a way to stream Uncut versions instead of using a TV version from Japan.

All BD/DVD volumes of Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 are out now, which means the last set (hopefully) of censorship comparisons is out now. Check em out in the link below, including episode 12 which is my favorite.

(Warning content in the link may not be suitable for young viewers)

All uncut material is on Kissanime, but if you can, support the series by buying the volumes. Season 2 of TG: Root A will air on Thursday, Jan. 8th around noon with the season picking up from where we left off in episodes 11-12. Probably the first two episodes will follow the manga and divert off later on.

According to Tumblr in TG tag, there was an early screening in Japan where you can watch the first episode of TG: Root A early and people who saw it said this: (Spoilers for first episode)

Kaneki appears crying blood. Tsukiyama and company continue their fight. Tsukiyama fights Naki. Noro saves Ayato. Doctor Kanou appears with his crew from the manga, as well as Eto. Kaneki leaves Anteiku and joins fking Aogiri like wut. KANEKI JOINS AOGIRI. He doesn't create his own crew, and no fight between Kanki and Ayato :(

TOKYO GHOUL ROOT A IS NOW OUT!!!  CHECK IT OUT NOW!

Good news, We are gonna be watching Japanese stream version. Meaning? UNCUT!!

Tokyo Ghoul Root A: Episode 1 review/summary/

Let's get the keypoints out of the way.

-No Censoring. Funimation finally picked up the right stream. Props for that Funimation!

-The differences between the manga and anime are clearly shown, but only some parts were close to the manga.

(manga spoiler from chapters 66-80)

For instance, we see Hideyoshi, Kaneki's best friend, watching Kaneki from safegrounds. (In the manga, he was sitting at home watching the news while taking notes). If you guys read the beginning chapters of the manga, like between 7-8, you will notice that Hide KNOWS that Kaneki is a Half-Ghoul. In fact, Hide played a special role during Aogiri arc that us manga readers didn't know until later in next manga arc.

Couple more instances remained somewhat the same, but modified to suit the different route we are taking. We were kinda supposed to see Yomo, Tsukiyama, and Uta fight Noro a little bit after Kaneki vs. Ayato, but I was satisfied regardless anyways. Perhaps the biggest difference is Kaneki vs. Ayato. First off, he never "ate" Touka's Kagune. Second, we get the scene from the manga where Kaneki exposes Ayato's secret, but not completely, because everything changed when Noro came to pick up Ayato. Basically, we never get to see our favorite scene, the Half-Kill scene. That was one of the biggest moments that I have been looking forward to seeing animated. I still hope we may see it in the future. The good news is, we got to see the iconic part where Kaneki shuts Ayato up. I kinda wanted to see a full Medium shot of Kaneki doing his "shut up, I'm talking here." phrase in a bit of a menacing way, but it works for me anyways, cause I went nuts.

The One-Eyed Owl was rushed. I recently skimmed through the manga, and found that more details were skipped. There is a person named Hirako, and Shinohara went into detail about him and little bit details about the famous "Arima" who could be idolized as a Superhuman, or the Ghoul Reaper. Other than that, the fight was well executed until the bombs happened.

We spot our last manga difference. When Kaneki told Touka he was leaving Anteiku. the difference is pretty big. In the manga, we see Kaneki forming his group with Banjou, Tsukiyama, and Hinami, and we get to see the pure Kaneki in the manga as well when he is calm and serene. The anime? Cold-hearted. He gave no sad smile, eyes looking down, and straight up stated that he is joining Aogiri. And the differences stop here.

-The opening is kinda strange to me. The opening is calming, but little animation is made. This is also the scene where Kaneki cries blood from his Kakagun (Ghoul Eye).  I may have to rewatch the opening a couple times to get used to it, and maybe the meaning of the opening will come clear to us when we continue to watch the anime. The ending is pretty cool, I love Ishida's water color style artwork. I also liked the ending song as well, but as I said before, I have to rewatch it to get used to it.

Overall, Tokyo Ghoul Root A (Tumblr's calling it Route A) started with bang. I can't wait for more episodes. What do you gais think about the anime?

Just finished watching the opening, and....

While it's not as fast paced, and awesome as the first opening, I think it has its charm, I like it :3

Especially when the singer goes to the main part of the song, that was just lovely :3

Although I saw the lyrics of the song, and damn is it twisted as firetruck xD

I guess it's supposed to represent Kaneki's state of mind, but damn such a lovely tune, with such twisted lyrics kinda bugs me xD

Here's the opening, watch it while you can!

So... I watched the first episode of season 1 today. I like the story, but... The gore is a bit too much for me (Please don't tease me for that one). I'm trying to decide if I want to continue it or not. :/ I really like the concept, though.

I finally got to see the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul √A (yes, I'm using that because its a lot cooler. :P), and oh myyyyy Gaaaaaawd... my hype. My hype is maximum.

Not only did the wrap up of the Aogiri VS Anteiku and CCG battle finally get some closure. Touka VS Ayayo was finished, and as some of you can imagine, Ayato's treatment left me with some... ahem... mixed feelings... but it's okay because Kaneki came back in and whooped his ass!

We got some other action from Amon and his CCG pals, two of which get their quinque on, fighting... uh... the one dude. I honestly forgot who that one guy was. I know everybody else from Aogiri though. lol Speaking of which, Noro, aka Mr. Smiley, was kinda funny in this episode. Not only did he just no sell Uta, Yomo, and Tsukiyama's attacks, he literally picked up Ayato so they could retreat. xD

We also got some cameos from some other characters, including more of the Aogiri people we haven't seen yet, and at the end of the episode, Kaneki meets with Tokua and tells her that he is joining Aogiri, and there is no reason whatsoever given yet as to why. Damn.

People who follow the manga probably have an idea why. I personally have no clue, though it doesn't really matter since √A is anime only material. :P So overall, I thought it was awesome and it felt like the ending that the first season should have had, as it opens a door for season two's beginning. I actually really like the opening and ending for √A too. I know the opening is kinda slow compared to last season's, but the art style, for both, I can at least say is appealing to the eyes.

I haven't made an announcement about chapter 12 of TG:re, but I'm sure you gais pretty much found it, so I just digress it and leave a link for those who haven't found chapter 12.

http://imperialscans.com/read/tokyo-ghoul-re/12-withered-souls/1

Now, good news, I found spoilers of Chapter 13, so weekly updates are gonna resume once again. I will post chapter 13 once it's translated to English.

  • 3 weeks later...

So how's everyone liking Tokyo Ghoul: Root A lately?

I must say, I might have lost control of myself when I went insane.

  • 4 weeks later...

Tsukiyama has a thing for posing a Cross stance once in a while :/

I'm on Episode 2 of Root A.

Being spoiled boosted my interest by 1,000,honestly. I just hope it doesn't go down by 7.
