So,for those who love and follow the medium of Japanese animation, then you probably heard of an event called Anime Expo thats held in LA every year.I wanted to go this year and I am and so far am having a blast, but there is one event that stuck out of my head.It was on Day 0,the day dedicated to getting your ticket prior to the actual thing, and waiting the 7 hours in the LA heat was awful like you wouldnt believe, but anyway,I saw a guy sketching and it gave me motivation to do the same, and I did.I was just sketching some basic heads,I thought it was nothing special, but someone did.A woman was cool enough to give water, and as she was,she saw me sketching. She gave me the usual compliments, hey thats cool, all that stuff, and I give a whole hearted thanks.then she came up and said,"You ever wanted your work to be published?"
I was entirely confused at that second.
"Are you serious?" I ask of course cause I thought what I did was nothing, and this isnt a case of me doubting myself in my skills,I know Im not bad,but these heads were nothing.
But she was serious."Yeah,I am,how old are you anyway?"
"16."
Thats when I got shot down essentially.
"Oh,well than, guess I cant do anything bout that, but give me a message in like 2 years," and after that she gave me her card, than she left.
The for people waiting in line with me than lost it,as did I of course, but on the inside.
Looking up her profile online that the card gave,it looks like shes actually means business, apparently she is familiar in the work field, working at Keith Publications,Willow Moon Publishing, and than some, you can see it all here if you dont believe me: http://ladymaverick81.com/
You have no idea(or maybe do,I dont know you that much) how big of a sign this is for me,a person who has always wanted to draw as a living, being given the opportunity to actually do it,and at such a young age too,I mean Im still in High School, yeah Im gonna be a Senior after my break but still,me getting the opportunity like that is amazing, and I wasnt really trying to get much recognition that day to begin with,I was just doin what I love to do.
So if you have something that you love to do,I encourage you to just keep at it,if you really love what you do,its bound to get you somewhere.
I swear, the only that topped that moment......was the panel at AX with the original voice cast of Sailor Moon,OH GOD THE AUDIENCE WAS SINGING THE MAIN THEME SONG WITH THE CAST AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!
Also,if youd like to see the drawings that got her impressed,Ill upload it when AX is done.
Til then, keep doin what you love to do,and happy 4th of July everyone.
