Does anyone own any guinea pigs?

Posted

This is a very random and specific question to ask, but I've recently been researching about them, and I thought I'd be neat to have a pet. I probably won't get any any time soon, but once I get my own place I'll definitely get some to keep my company. I've done some research already, but feel free to give me and tips and advice if you have had a guinea pig in the past or currently own any.

I've never owned one myself, but my old friend had one. Just a fair warning, they can be highly loud and they can be very, VERY messy. They need their attention, like any other pet need attention, but overall. They're adorable and can be very sweet. (Some can be a bit aggressive, but you can talk to the pet store about it if you get an aggressive one)

They need similar care and food to Rabbits. Actually, Rabbit food is label as also for guinea pigs, well the grain, that is, they can't eat rabbit pellets, they need their own special ones.

Consider how much it's going to cost you to buy this often

Guinea pigs need a regular supply of Vitamin C, which they get both from their daily vegetable intake and specially-formulated pellets.

Guinea pigs also need a hutch like rabbits do.

So basically, if you can't take care of a rabbit...well, a Guinea pigs just as hard. You should make sure you are ready to care for him/her before you get them. Like any other pet, you will have to clean them, probably not bath them like a cat/dog, but dampen them to get dirt off, clean their waste, feed them everyday, love them. You know.

Nope, if I had a pet that cute I'd be afraid of squishing it with hugs

I've got two of them.  I think the main thing to remember is it would be in your best interests to get two females (unless you want babies) because they are very social and males tend to fight too much.  Other than hay and pellets, you can feed them veggies that you can find at any grocery store.  Each pig is different, but some staples include lettuce - roman, not iceberg - carrots, and apple.  You can also pick them grass.  Hope I've helped.

I have one, it is dying though ;~;

They are so sweet, mine loves Timothy Hay, we named him Timothy.

He also loves blueberries and strawberry tops. I don't know if that is good for him though.

GROOM ITS NAILS AND ITS FUR. GIVE IT BATHS.
