Ehhh..A Frozen Heart is just another "edgy" Disney book trying to make it all "dark n' stuff"

The only one they did that was any good, or even made the source material "darker" was Fairest of All. 

The rest kinda fall into the "Ermahgerd, the villain won! Be shocked!" type. 

What happened in fairest of all?

It explained the back story to the Evil Queen in Snow White, as a character study where the Queen is possibly insane, but does know real magic. Combined with her paranoia, complex from her father calling her ugly all her life, and the meddling of three evil women, she becomes convinced the step daughter she once loved is trying to kill her. 

it was honestly a lot better than a tie in novel really had to be. It could honestly be called good.

Then the author crapped all over it with two inferior sequels, and Disney just keeps making these "Twisted Tales" books.
