It happened all the time, it's called White Washing 

White washing is what everyone is complaining about in GitS

Disney making live action should work kinda probably maybe

 

Live action anime ends terribly, the Death Note movies beat all odds surprisingly

 

But then again Death Note is Death Note, hard to not do well

Thing is though for The Great Wall is the backlashers didn't get it straight. It was a role intended for a Caucasian dude. Plus most of the film's cast ( and the director for that matter) are all Chinese.

Last time I saw it was when I was in grade school watching random episodes on adultswim super late at night

Not to Germans, I suppose.

Except all I really did was rework a very, very old fairy tale, so....ehhh? 

Plus RotG is about mythical fairy tale characters

 

So I feel like it works by rewriting an old German fairy tale

I suppose so.

I reworked Father Frost (From roughly the 1700's or earlier, supposedly) as Jack from ROTG, softened up the killing bit, and kinda made it set in Burgess Colony, instead of western Germany, plus Americanized Nastinka and Greta to Nat and Erin. 

 

So did I piss on German folklore accidentally there? 

I think it's a pretty cool and creative concept

 

And I have German heritage for what it's worth

I suppose so...it's been done before, just not with ROTG. There's horror and fantasy versions of it, and a craptastic late 70's German film based on it.

 

I didn't know that: is it a big bit of your heritage? 

I've got 1/4 of Seminole in mine, from my Grandmother on my Dad's side. And 1 1/2 Irish, cause why not? (My grandpa claimed to be a Scotts Irish Jew for some reason..)

Yeah my Mom says German and Italian are the big ones in our heritage
