We are, though: I used to have it as a kid, and it was PG on VHS copies, then lowered on DVD.

Maybe the PG-13 is a new rating for it?

Or IMB done fricked up again, which is possible 

Rotten Tomatoes and Amazon seem to say the same thing. I think someone screwed up somewhere or like you said, there were changes, which shouldn't even be happening.

Yea, it's a great show, but not for everyone. Heck you can say that for every show

I've had people despise things I recommended. It happens.

Maybe it gets better? I usually watch three episodes of a show before judging it as a whole: pilots are just jumping off points, and are often lacking. 

Yea, if you wish, watch the next two episodes. You might end up liking it who knows. If you like mysteries, you might.
