I don't know anyone who asks questions like that because they legitimately do not know if the person currently working on a pretty picture is, in fact, the one drawing the pretty picture. I always take them to imply "Wow, I can't believe you drew/knitted that, that's amazing!" If anything, it's the ones answering with a sarcastic "Yes/no" who have a problem with taking things too literally.
