Square Enix said PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 players would get to test Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with a free trial period. In Japan, the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn trial will launch on December 24.

The trial lets players explore Eorzea for 14 days and bring a character up to level 20. Square Enix also set a 20,000 gil cap, a restriction that doesn’t allow free trial players to invite others to their party, and chat restrictions like not being able to yell or shout. After the trial ends, players have 90 days to upgrade to the full game if they want to import their character into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

If you have PlayStation Plus in Japan you’ll get early access to the demo. Beginning December 11, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download and jump into the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn free trial.

Square Enix is also extending the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn upgrade period. If you have the PlayStation 3 version, you can upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version for free until March 31, 2015.
