Some Thoughts On The Importance of 3 In Kingdom Hearts

Posted

Hey guys! 'Sup? So just some thoughts I'd like to share with you all about numbers and especially the number 3 in the world of Kingdom Hearts. Nothing really significant, just some figures that have been knocking around in my head for a while now. So everyone talks about the significance of the numbers 13 and 7 in the KH universe, but I haven't heard too much talk about the number 3. It largely seems to be ignored in the greater discussions involving KH. The number 3 is one of the most symbolic of all numbers outside of 13 and 7. 13 is traditionally associated with bad luck and ill fortune. 7 in the Bible represents completion, and is also considered lucky. 3 is also a lucky number and in Medieval times, was thought to be a very holy and sacred number, representing the Trinity. In Kingdom Hearts, 3 comes up just as often as 13 or 7, if not more so. Lets take a look:Its quite apparent that Namura has an obsession with grouping things in sets of 3; Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Axel, Xion, Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Sora, Donald, and Goofy. In the world of KH, it takes a body, soul and heart to make up a whole human. It took Namine a year to restore Sora's memories. A full year is 12 months, which can be divided by 3. And, of course, there are 3 numbered titles in the series. :)If I think of more, I'll update the post. Hope you all found this of interest, I know it was for me. :)

Also SPOILER!

In the credits of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, at the end of the credits, Sora and Riku are seen walking into a bright light, forming III.

I'm not sure the number 3 is really going to have much significance beyond this being the 'third' adventure for Sora and the gang...except even then, it's actually not given that DDD exists and if you want to be really specific, CoM would probably count as well.
