Tails' Splatoon Testfire Demo Impressions

Posted

SO i just got done with playing the Splatoon testfire demo online servers (which are now shutdown until sometime in the morning) and I thought I'd give out my impressions of the demo. So you could call this a mini review in a sense.

First off, when you start the demo you are treated to a little tutorial level that helps explain the controls to you. I'll admit, it took me a while to get used to the controls on my Wii U Gamepad, especially with the camera controls. that took some getting used to. But after some practice I was able to get the pattern down.

Then, once you've finished the tutorial level you'll be sent to the menu where you can chooses your gender. You can either pick the boy inkiling. Or the girl inkling. And who you choose as well as what color type you give him/her will determine wheather your character is considered cool or not. I choose the boy inkling since he seemed to be alright even though the female inkling looks better. ANd I had him in blue because it's a neat color.

Once I've created my character and chosen my weapon of choice, I went off for battle. And I have to say, the online is simply amazing. It was loads of fun. I started off with using the regular paint gun. And while I wasn't completely bad with it, I had a little trouble aiming at the other players with it since the aim required the motion controls with the camera (which i really hate so far in the game as I find it to be just plain atrocious). So I choose the roller instead and with that weapon I moped the floor with the other players and literallly was the only reason why my team kept winning the matches. Although i did try the sniper rifle weapon too, but that item is completely underpowered and useless that you're better off with either the regular paint gun or the roller (and the roller is a bit overpowered from what I've played so far) unless you're good with the sniper rifle. In short, the roller is really good for covering the map,  and the sniper rifle is good for defense,

But overall, I had a fun time with the testfire demo online servers. It really helped me decide weather I should buy the game on day 1 or not. The online servers are extremely fun.

Yeah the testfire was really fun. The controls did take a bit of getting used to. I mainly used the roller because it seemed the most fun to me. I wonder if any of us on here who did the testfire were in the same match at some point :P

Yeah the roller is the best weapon in the demo. And good question, though I doubt that a lot of KH13 members even played the demo or even knew about it lol. But the online was fun. I think I'll buy the game on day 1.

I only got to play a few matches since I was busy, but I had a lot of fun with it. I tried out the Splattershot since it seems like the best choice for my playstyle, but I plan on joining in the next time slot, and I want to test some of the other guns as well. The camera's kinda weird to control, but I'm sure it'll be a lot easier to use after a while. As for the roller, it's good for spreading paint, but not very good for combat since all you can do is run and hope to hit people right ahead of you.

I also plan to share my impressions, but so far, it seems like something I'd get on day one if I'm able to!

Yeah, the roller is mainly good for covering more ground than it is for main combat unlike the regular splattershot and the sniper rifle weapons.

Yeah. The sniper seems to be best purely for combat, while the Splattershot is kind of a mix of the two. Since I like having a balance, I personally went with the Splattershot for my first few rounds.

Yeah now that I've gotten to play it I think I'm gonna buy it day 1 as well. Are you also gonna get the amiibos?

Yeah, I'll try to get them. I haven't gotten around to getting the amiibo figures but I guess now's a good time to start :P.

Ooooh I remember seeing the trailer a while back

Its reminds me of paintball, but way more extreme

First Match: Opposing team is full Rollers. Proves to be a bit broken and takes little skill. Literally the only reason you can't win is when you face a fully Roller team.

So my next few matches were a Charge Shot, Splattershot, and two Rollers vs 4 rollers and a few people who actually wanted to test the game out for what it truly was. We dominated the 4 roller team. The Charge shot is cool, but way too slow and seems to be the second most picked weapon. It covers little ground and this specific one in the demo has very little range. Splattershot covered a lot of terrain and  kept those pesky rollers at bay.

It's a really fun game. I agree about the controls, I don't see why the right analog stick allows camera controls yet they also have it built into the gamepad. It should at least be an option. Edit: Turns out you had the option to turn off gamepad camera control! Who knew xD

I played for the full hour and I only used the balanced splattergun. The rollers seem incredibly broken in certain situations, but the can hopefully be combated in the full version when mines are in it. So far so good any ways, I'll give the other weapons a shot later when the last testfire opens and then I'll get around to pre-ordering.
