I have to exahange a phone charger without my mom knowing

Posted

Here's the deal.  I go to the store to get a charger for my phone.  I find the iPhone charger, grab the second box in the display, and check out.  As soon as I get in the car, I pull the charger out of the bag and notice that it says "USB" instead of iPhone.  As if that was embarrassing enough, there's no way I can tell my mom because not only will she act like I'm the most incombatant and flaky person in the universe, but she will also never let me live it down.  She keeps asking me if my phone is on (from last time) and always has to remind me of the time I accidentally handed my hair dresser too much money every freaking I get my hair done, even though I've forgotten about the whole thing and don't even remember when it happened.  It drives me nuts and when I try to tell her, she chides me for yelling at her.  So I can't tell my mom.  Problem is, I can't do the exchange on my own because I can't drive.  I guess maybe I could bring it up at my thearipst appointment tomorrow and that way I'll have the buffer of a third party.

Unless you have a friend who can drive you to the store in secret, it might be better to just be honest with your mistake. She'll probably give you crap for it, but hiding a mistake and probably getting caught (your phone won't last forever) will lead to much greater crap than you'd get for making the mistake in the first place. There's something to be said for catching your own mess-up and own up to it, than to have her catch it.

That is, if you haven't already told her "Oh yeah, I totally got the right charger! My phone is charging now!". Then you might wanna save it for the therapist, or employ a friend with a car.

This is probably too late, I know, but I'm afraid that I'm going to have to side with Dracozombie here.  I don't know the severity of what will happen if you admit that you got the wrong charger, but it might be easiest if you admit that you got the wrong one and ask if you can get the correct one the next time that you're in town.  It's a very honest mistake which happens to us all.  I know I have bought the wrong cord or charger for things a *lot*, as have the majority of my adult relatives, so I can't imagine she would think it's too great of a crime.  If she does, well, your mom seriously seems to blow things out of proportion.  Getting the wrong charger by mistake is nothing to be ashamed of.  Accidents happen, and we all do them.  I'm just sorry that you feel that you must hide it.

If you try to exchange it on your own you run the risk of being caught in a lie, and that might make matters even worse.  If you admit to the problem casually and ask to exchange it it would probably go over a bit better, in my opinion.  Unless you're *really* good at not getting caught at such things.  For me, whenever I tried to hide stuff it always backfired in my face tenfold.  Good luck either way, and let us know the outcome! : )
