The universe of kingdom hearts has often confused me and when ever we are given information (especially by Nomura) we might not fully understand the explanation (this or we accept a possible flaw). In the case of Nomura's explanation of the realms, in which he says they are like the light and dark realms are like planes of existence with the realm of between like stairs, things to be start to become inconsistent. (full interview:http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/kingdomheartsiifinalmix/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-34866889&pid=935702&page=0)
If this is interpreted in a 3d view you get something that contrasts the universe in many ways. First of all, there are things like Riku being in the realm of light right next to Sora, but still belonging to the dark realm. Second, the worlds in the realm of light are dispersed in a 3d manner so how could the realm of light which is explained in a 2d manner be 3d. Getting to the realm of darkness by gummi-ship isn't a matter of "Lets go North to the realm of darkness" it is more like through the realm of between where the crossroads are to the dark margin to the rod or if it is possible use of a dark corridor. (the cross roads will be elaborated on in another thread)
The answer is this: on top of the three dimensions of space there are the extra two of time and the dimension in which light and darkness are accessed.
If any of you have watched that show on the science channel called the universe then you might have seen their representation of parallel universes. They represented them as a flat (or not flat) planes much like Nomura's description, because you can't represent two three dimensional universes expanding in all dimensions infinitely without running into each other when we only have three dimensions ourselves. What I am saying is to look at darkness/light and all levels between and beyond as a single dimension.
Go to 3 min on this video to see a representation of the parallel universe:
Much like how we call it space-time due to time being unique in kh we would call it space-time-darkness/light. This extra dimension allows you to look at the realms as planes of existence without contradicting the universe
Crazier stuff:
Also the door to darkness is a huge worm hole caused by the existence of one kingdom hearts in multiple different areas throughout different dimensions (Height, dept, width, and levels of darkness and light and hopefully not time because that would mean time travel )
Maybe more time passes in the dark realm because kh is in there.
THE FOURTH DIMENSION's shadow (and time):
Hopefully that made some sense!
The one thing that I am stumped on is the strange dimension (and) corridor. All I know is the description from this:http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Xehanort_Reports (#3) and the few videos where they use it. Could the strange dimension be a what the dark/light dimension actually is, something similar, or something different all together? An answer from a person who played through bbs would be most appreciated.
This theory may have little plot relevance but it is fair enough to say that even the craziest stuff may not be too far off. Even if this theory wasn't true it could be looked at as a way to think of the kh universe without the "lets go north to the darkness" plot hole. Please no flaming.
