For a Greater Good (the RP)

Posted

This RP is based off of several elements of "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.

The future is not what it seems. The United States has been separated into "districts". There are 13 districts, each of them stricken with extreme poverty. Living off of the land is strictly prohibited, so many starve. In order to allow some people to live, the Capitol (the government) has created "The Hunger Games". The winner of these games will receive extravagant amounts of money, a new house, and plenty of food. Two "Tributes" from each district are chosen to participate in these games. The games may seem like they are fun, but they are anything but. Winning the game will make some go through extreme pain and tons of mental stress. Why is this? To win the Hunger Games, you must kill every other tribute in a specialized arena the government has created, including the Tribute from your district. The arena face can vary from a jungle to a desert. The age range for the Tributes vary from 12-18, any gender. Many people find these games cruel, but some families are so desperate, they support them. The Capitol enjoys these games for entertainment, but they believe that the Hunger Games are for a greater good.

Name: Jacob Lefevre

Age: 16

Gender: Male

District: 8

Appearance (you get new clothes in the Arena): Jacob has slightly tanned skin, dark brown hair that hangs over his head, a mustache, and a few beard hairs. He wears a white T-Shirt, torn black Docker shorts, and a pair of old Reeboks. Mostly, his facial features are hidden by his hair, but when he pulls his hair back, you can see his depressed look.

H.G. weapon: He has an assortment of throwing daggers, which have been dipped in one of the most deadliest toxins in the world. He also has a blowdart gun, two battle daggers, and a limited supply of mines.

Short bio: Jacob and his family moved from Canada to the U.S. 10 years before the creation of the Hunger Games. They had lived a pretty good life in California before it got turned into District 8. After this, their lives made a turn for the worst. They lost most of their money, and they couldn't afford a lot of food. 3 years ago, when Jacob's brother Jackson was picked as a Tribute, they had mixed emotions of happiness and depression. They prayed everyday while he was in the arena, but unfortunately, he was killed when there were only 3 people left. This left Jacob in a state of depression and anger. He dropped out of the Capitol created school system, and began to just walk around his district, with nothing to do.

Another day has gone by. Another day without a decent meal. All Jacob had today was a bowl of dry oatmeal. As the Twilight begins to fall, he begins to head back home. He had been walking around District 8 all day today. He witnessed a few whippings in the Capitol plaza around 3 p.m. The man that was whipped had been caught hunting in the woods. As Jacob recollects on his day during his walk home, he notices Capitol vehicles fly by him. What are they doing here? Unless...it's time. Jacob starts to run the opposite way from his house. The cold wind blows against his face and hair as he sprints towards the Capitol square. When he gets there, he notices the whole District population standing in the square. There was a large stage, and Capitol officials were standing on it, looking down at the people. A man in a white suit was standing at a microphone. "Today is the biggest day of the year. The day we pick the Tributes for the Hunger Games."

Brian heard from some people in the local bar of what was happening. After hearing this,Brian ran to the man in the white suit, who was on a stage with a black microphone, introducing the Hunger Games and what tributes they would pick.Brian was excited, and saw his friend, tom, who was also standing.Seeing each other, brian and tom shared some friendly hand signs. After the greetings,Brian continued to listen.

"But, Mom...! I can't! I won't!" CeeCee screamed desperately at her adopted mother, "PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME DO THIS!" She struggled with the two tall men that were holding her, trying to take her. Though she knew it was pointless--what could a tiny, malnourished, 12 year old girl do to two strong adult men?--it was her last chance at freedom. Her last hope.

"Sweetheart...I'm sorry, but you have to. There's nothing I can do, and, even if there was, you would still have to go." She swept over to her daughter and kissed her on her forehead. "We need the money and the food, dear. You have to understand." Crying, CeeCee's mom backed away. "Good bye, Daughter. I love you."

Sophia's little brother Dustin was bouncing on their shared, crumpled matress. "Huh? Dust, calm down," She groaned, and pulled the pillow over her face. She didn't want to face today. Not until she really had to. Because it was too late to turn back now. "It's the Reaping Day!" He exclaimed. She'd filled Dustin in on her plan, but made him swear not to breathe a word of it to their parents. "It's time for your plan--" "Shh!" She put a finger to his lips. "Secret, remember?" She whispered. He nodded mutely, eyes wide. She sat him on the ground.

Every slip of paper in the girl's reaping ball had her name written on it. She hadn't had to bribe the mayor with much. There weren't many people crazy enough to WANT to volunteer. To WANT to give up like that. Sophia wasn't sure what her plan was after making it to the Capitol, but she wasn't going to think of that now. No use scaring herself any more than nessecary.

She pulled on her usual work clothes, as if she expected her name would not turn up in the reaping, and she'd have to go to school, then the factory for work. She took a last look in the mirror. (This is the last day my life will be anything close to normal.) She thought to herself. (But maybe giving up my normal will save someone else's.) Sophia took a deep breath, and then put on a fake smile. "Dustin! Put your shoes on! We're going to the square!"

"Today marks the 10th anniversary of The Hunger Games. To celebrate this, we have added a bonus. The Tribute that wins the Hunger Games will be able to have their whole district fall from poverty and become rich! Now, District 8. Time for the drawings." Jacob searches the crowd for his family, and he spots his mother and father looking at the Capitol representative with sadness on their faces. Jacob then turns his attention back to the man. A man brings a barrel full of balls on the stage. The balls has names written on them in small print. "Let the drawing begin!". The representative presses a button on the barrel, and it begins to toss the balls. The barrel spits one of the balls out, and the representative picks it up. A lump forms in Jacob's throat, and no matter how hard he tried to clear it, it just sat there like a stone egg. "Ladies and gentlemen of District 8! I'm proud to announce to male Tribute for your district. Jacob Lefevre!". Jacob's mom starts to break down in hysteria, and tears run down his dads cheeks. Jacob's heart stops. No. Oh god no The PeaceMakers clear the crowd for a second, and drag Jacob away. Why? Why me?

Brian was watching as the balls were picked out.Brian dreaded what he heard. He heard his name called out.Suddenly, the crowd backed up.Two white men took him away. After Brian was put in the car, brian got out and watched the balls. The man was yelling at brian, but brian said "I want to see whose coming with me.".The man nodded and got in the car.As Tom ran up to Brian,Tom tried taking it in."You can't do this!",said Tom."It wasnt my decision, but im glad i was chosen,"Brian said.Brian hugged Tom goodbye."Tell my parents what's happened,"Brian said."I will."Tom Replied. But before tom went,he gave a Rabbit's foot, with 2 lucky clovers tied to the foot,to Brian."For good luck",Tom said."I'll need more than luck."Brian Replied. After the goodbyes,Brian said to Tom,Tom ran off into town, and Brian sat and watched.

Sophia was prepared to hear the cheerful announcer pull her name from the reaping ball. But when she actually heard her name called, it was an entirely different story. She felt frozen in place, unable to move. In her peripheral vision she could see the cameras rotating to aim themselvs at her. Her parents were both crying, but Dustin had a knowing smile on his face, like he'd stolen cookies and gotten away with it. She really wished his acting skills would improve just a TEENSY bit. He was posative she'd stop the Games, and come out alive, but she didn't have an eight-year-old's faith.

"Miss Sophia Hearts? Where is our lovely Tribute?" Finally, Sophia managed to start walking stiffly towards the stage. Every step she remembered this was her idea. But now she wanted anything but this. She didn't care if she had to live in poverty and starve. She just wanted to be anywhere but here. Heading anywhere but an arena where she was likely to be killed. She swallowed, and stepped up the stairs. The announcer smiled, and said her name again, getting a few, half-hearted cheers, before drawing from the boys' reaping ball, and announcing a boy named Brian.

Sophia wasn't paying much attention to the crowd, her fellow Tribute, or announcer woman. She had to see Dustin, because this might be the final time. The biggest grin she'd ever seen was lighting up his face, and he waved frantically, trying to get her attention, and then giving her a thumbs up. Her mom grabbed Dustin's hand, probably telling him to be quiet, and kept crying. (I shouldn't have done this.) She thought. (But it's too late to back out now.)

Two men in white pointed to a car waiting towards the side. She saw the other boy Tribute forced into one, too. She took a deep breath, gave a wave to her family, and slammed the door.

Brian heard a girl named Sophia that was the Female Tribute.Brian waited in the car,and was thinking about what would happen. He was wondering what it was like to die.He wondered how his mom would react, how is father would greive, and how Lindsay would take it.He also thought about winning the prize money,if he could. He could buy a house,he could go to college,he could eat all his favorite meals. But also,Brian felt bad for the contestants. He then quickly slammed out of the car,ran as fast as he could to his house, regardless of how he felt, and got his supplies. He took everything he needed:His Knife belt and his Baseball bat. After catching his breath and taking a ice cold water,he ran all the way back to the car, ready to leave his life.

Anthony was outside the arena. (I have to win this. I need to enter these games in order to stop living on the streets from now on) thought Anthony. Anthony heard the voice of the arena announcing the Hunger Games. (I guess I better go in.) thought Anthony. (Or maybe I should examine my enemies first?) thought Anthony. Anthony looked around and saw a girl and a boy. (Doesn't look like there's too much compettition) thought Anthony.

Jacob's mom runs towards the PeaceMakers that were dragging her son away. "LEAVE HIM ALONE! TAKE ME, TAKE ME!". She screamed like a banshee, her voice pierced the quiet nighttime air. Other PeaceMakers appear and drag her the opposite way her son was going, and she tried to fight. Jacob's dad could only watch. Jacob is thrown in the back of a white Lincoln, and is locked in. Both of the doors on the side were locked on the outside for maximum security. One of the PeaceMakers gets in the drivers seat and begins to head towards the District 8 train station. He mocks Jacob the entire trip there. "Won't see your family no more, eh. You better win or you'll die, eh." He talked with a Canadian accent just to anger Jacob, but Jacob didn't react at all. He just turned his head and looked out of his cardoor window. When they make it to the station, Jacob is thrown out of the car next to one of the most beautiful girls he has ever seen. The female tribute of District 8, Elizabeth Jefferies.

Brian was brought to the District's train station. After he was dropped off with his stuff,he was given a note from the man.It said to wait for a man that would take us somewhere.Where it would take them,he did not know. All he did was wait with his supplies in a suitcase. He quickly took out his golden watch, which he one from a friend 5 years ago,and looked at the time.Brian felt like this was taking forever. He felt like he was waiting for his death, which in a way,he was. After waiting 10 minutes,Brian sat down against a stone pillar, which held up the station, and sighed in greif and sorrow.

The car stopped abruptly, and the drivers got out. Sophia's eyes burned when all of the cameras started flashing. She tried to keep her eyes open enough to see. The two men dressed in white from before motioned for her to walk. Inside, she realized just how serious the Capitol was about locking in its Tributes for the Games. There was no way to jump off of the balcony--a force field would just toss you back. The roof had the same boundries. Doors were locked everywhere after nine o' clock, and gaurds were everywhere. There truly was no escaping from this place. She took a deep breath, and a girl, about twenty-five, came into the room Sophia'd been assigned. "Hello," She smiled slightly, but the look in her eyes showed she was struggling to be friendly. "Hi," She said blankly in acknowledgement. The girl, looking satisfied that I was capable of speech, continued. "I'm your mentor, Stacy. The first thing on your schedule for today--the Remake Center." Sophia's jaw dropped. How had she left THIS torture out of her plan. ANYTHING but the Remake Center. "Um, can I please not--" "Now." Stacy snapped. She sighed. This had been her choice, after all. "Right," (Hello Capitol, goodbye my life.)

After the long wait, the train came.Brian got on.The train ride took about 2 hours, where he arrived at a big center."This must be where we live."Brian said.He looked around and was brought into a cell.He started banging on the door. After realizing no hope,he took his knife out and started counting how many hours he had spent. After 2 hours,he carved 2.He was trying to leave a message - that there was no hope. After seeing 2 girls in a cell in front of him,Brian called out to them."One of you sophia?",brian said.

Sophia looked up, surprised to hear someone calling her name. After the darn Remake Center, every part of her felt like it was on fire. Her stylists, Kevin, Anna, and Maude, had been telling her the whole time she had a natural beauty and would be famous with the Capitol crowd. But then why did she need the Remake Center? She stood up, and peered through the bars. Her cell mate hadn't spoken to her the entire time, no matter how often she prompted conversation.

"Um, me," She called out tentatively. "Who are you?" She realized how pitiful it was the be thankful to hear the sound of another human's voice. It was like she had been here weeks and months instead of just a few hours. What kind of way was this to treat the people who were (unwillingly, but, still) giving their lives for the entertainment of the few and rich? Who just bet their money on which of them wouldn't die in this awful competition? She glanced back at her cell mate. It was clear some of the Tributes were giving up before the fight began, feeling there was no hope. She wouldn't be one of them.

Brian smiled and sighed in releif."I'm Brian. We were both the District 1 tributes.".Brian looked up and carved another 1 for another hour.Brian then put his knife away. After leaving his marking,he looked at the girl with a releived smile."Well, this is boring. We should at least have some magazines, maybe some good books or video games."Brian then sighed and took out his knife, and threw it into the wall."This is killing me!Ugh,if i'm going to die, make it now,not slowly and boring!".

Anthony sneaked a peak inside the arena but no compettiors were in there. Anthony got kind of mad. (Bah! I hate bluffers. They always think they're funny. I wonder how long it'll take until we can finally get the stupid Hunger Games started!) thought Anthony angrily. Anthony put his sword case on the ground. (Hopefully I'll be able to win and get supplied with a bunch of food and all that for a long time) thought Anthony. Anthony started pacing back and fourth.

Brian was called into the Remake Center.20 minutes later,he returned, wearing a white T-shirt with no sleeves. He was also wearing white athlete shorts and 2 black sandals. He also came back with a white hat."Those people in there kept saying "Im Agile - im a Jock - i got muscles" - I DONT CARE ABOUT THAT - I WANT OUT OF HERE!!!!!"Brian then got his baseball bat out and began slamming his bat on the bars."GET ME OUT OF HERE NOW!!"

"Hi." The girl's very voice made Jacob tremble. It was angelic. He wasn't just trembling because of the crush he had on her. He was trembling because he knew he would have to kill her to win. The very thought made him sick to his stomach. "H-H-Hi..", says a nauseous Jacob. Seconds later, his legs collapse, and he passes out on the hard train station tile. He wakes up in an elegant area of the train, which is already headed to the Capitol. He finds himself in a bed that is perfect. It reminded him of those Tempurpedic beds he has seen on TV. He swings his legs to the side of the bed and slowly lifts himself up. He moves his hair to the side of his face, and starts to walk towards the first door he sees. When he opens it, he sees Elizabeth and an unknown woman sitting at a table, having dinner. The smell of food draws him closer to the table, and he takes a seat on the far side of it. "Hello Jacob, my name is Terri, and I am here to watch over you until the Games." Jacob stared at this woman intently. He can tell she was from the Capitol, her hairstyle and clothing gave it all away. Her blonde hair was woven upwards, and had the appearance of a beehive, and her clothes had a futuristic flash to them. He shoots Elizabeth a quick glance, and then looks at the food. He sees salisberry steak, veggies and fruits he's never seen, several different breads, 12 different cakes, and a platter of sandwiches. He automatically piles his plate full of food, for he hasn't eaten in two days. While he gorges, Terri explains the rules of the Hunger Games. "You two must work together for the sake of District 8." Elizabeth cuts her off and asks, "How are we supposed to work together if one of us has to kill the other to win?". Terri had no answer, and Jacob stopped eating and stared at Elizabeth. She's right... He starts to feel nauseous again, and excuses himself from the table.

Sophia bounced up in excitement. "You're from District One, too?" The boy--Brian--nodded his head. Well, though she'd probably have to end up killing him eventually, or him killing her, it was a relief to have a little bit of home with her here in hell. "Did you work at the Main Factory? The decoration crews? I was stuck at the loading dock." She scrunched up her nose, not liking that thought. She'd hated working on that loud, stinky warehouse, filling up truck after truck in an endless stream.

Her room/cell mate made noise. Sophia turned to see what was wrong. She was scrambling to her feet, and grabbed a little pin she'd brought with her. A token. Sophia automatically reached up, gripping her engraved golden locket. It had belonged to her mom before the chaos of the Districts and the Hunger Games. She didn't want to die thinking of that arena--she wanted to be thinking of her home. Not even that--District 1 couldn't even be classified as that. She wanted to be thinking of her family.

She realized why the girl had been preparing as if the leave. More of the men dressed in white suits walked down the hall, holding keys. Sophia let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. FINALLY!! She glanced over at Brian. She wondered whether either of them would ever see their home again.

Brian's custom lunch order was brought in:1 hot dog,1 bowl of Bananas and strawberries, and 1 glass of ice-cold Pepsi.Brian then shouted to the guard "Thanks!".After brian was brought to the cafeteria with his dinner,he met a man who sat in front of him with 2 other girls."Hey there. What district are you from?Brian then winked to Terri, who in his eyes, was cute.

Anthony walked into the cafeteria. He saw the same boy and girl he saw earlier, so as some people that he had never seen before. (It's lunchtime, but for reason, I'm not hungry. Maybe it's just nervousness why I'm not hungry. Oh well, whatever) thought Anthony. Anthony left the cafeteria and went back to where he originally was. (I can't beleive that the games haven't started yet) thought Anthony angrily.

Sophia picked up her tray, and scanned the miniature cafeteria. Before her crazy plan to become a Tribute and save all of her fellows Tributes, now in ruins, she'd been popular. She'd never worried about where she'd have to sit--everyone wanted her to sit with them. They all knew who she was--the amazing Sophia Hearts. She'd seen how horrified some of the faces at the reaping had been. And how ecstatic others had been. With her out of the way, there was room for a whole new social scene. She shook her head, horrified how her life and many others were on the line, and all she could think of was popularity. That was gone now. She didn't care, and probably would never have a chance to again.

She shuffled towards the only person she really knew. A woman--probably someone's escort or mentor--was sitting at a table with Brian and two girls she vaguely recognized from re-watching the drawings in the different districts on T.V. She'd buried her face in her hands when it was her turn to be on camera. She knew she couldn't see a glimpse of home, of all she was about to lose, without bursting into tears. She slid her tray onto the table. "Hi," She chimed. "My name's Sophia."

Brian continued to eat in peace, but several women walked up to him and asked him for his signatures.Brian turned them all down, then took his food and sat across the table to Sophia."Hey.".Brian sighed and continued to eat in peace.

The train pulls into the Capitol. Both Elizabeth and Jacob were tired from the train ride, and when they got off the train, neither of them could open their eyes fully. Terri leads both of them to their accommodations, a hotel-like building where all of the other Tributes would be staying. Terri leads them to an elevator, and the trio steps inside. "Both of you will have to share a room", Terri says sheepishly. Jacob's jaw dropped a mile, and Elizabeth looked at Terri as if she was the nastiest piece of trash on Earth. "Why is this?!", Elizabeth shouted. -Ding- The elevator makes it to the 8th floor. "Time for you guys to go to bed now." Terri escorts Jacob and Liz out of the elevator and into their room. The room was magnificent. The walls were painted a royal gold color, the carpet was golden, and the beds were elegant. The beds sat across from each other. Jacob sits down on his bed, and lets out a comfortable sigh. He could get used to sleeping here. Terri looks at Elizabeth staring at her bed in disgust and says, "You better get some rest. Training begins tomorrow, and the Games the day after." Elizabeth winces, but obliges. Pajamas were given to both Jacob and Elizabeth, and both of them laid down and tried to go to sleep. Tomorrow would be an important day.

Brian looked at Sophia, since she looked like she was about to barf.Brian patted her hand with a dim smile."It's going to be okay."Brian then blinked, but then was lost in thought. He continued to think about his old life, yet tried to stick with what was happening.Brian sighed and looked around.the guards were everywhere, and the Tributes looked both scared and angry.Brian then took his attention back to sophia."Before i left, what was it you said?something about my job"?

Jacob wakes up, 5 minutes after he supposedly went to sleep. His stomach was growling. Even though recently he had eaten a large meal, his body digested it super fast. He puts on his pants quietly, making sure not to wake Elizabeth, and then tip toes out of the door. "Where to go..", he mumbled. He makes a right down the hallway, and then finds another door that seemingly leads to a room similar to the one he has. He knocks on it and says, "Terri?". "Yes, come in." Jacob opens the door and sees Terri sitting in an armchair reading a book. "Hey, Terri. Do you know where the cafeteria is? I'm starving." "First floor." "Alright, thanks." Jacob walks out of her room and closes the door silently. Why is her room more simple than ours? He shakes his head and walks to the staircase which was located next to the elevator. He runs down 9 flights of stairs until he reaches the first floor. The smell of food once again lures him, and he finds his way to the cafeteria. As soon as he walks in, he wishes he hadn't. Every single tribute from all of the other districts were in there. All of them looked like convicts. Jacob slowly walks to the buffet line and piles his plate full of food, and then finds an empty table and sits at it. So I have to avoid being killed by all of these people? He starts to tremble slightly. Luckily, his hair was let down, covering his face, so he could hide his fear. He slowly eats the macaroni and cheese he piled on his plate, but at the same time, observes the other Tributes.
