Funnily enough, Japan didn't make that title. It was FUNimation's orginally made title for the English title.

 

The actual title for the episode translates to "Goku's Declaration of Victory!! As Freeza Destroys Himself..." Yeah, it still kinda implies that he's going to lose, but I think it more has to do with Frieza's mental state, as he is clearly losing his mind when fighting against Goku due to the massive insults he taking to his pride.

 

On the actual joke itself: I never really thought that Goku wouldn't beat Frieza, even as a kid. Thinking the good guys won't win is kind of pointless in DragonBall. If we're talking pure suspense, I think the idea of Namek exploding with Goku's chances of escaping rapidly decreasing fits better. And it followed through nicely as well.
