Hey everyone, it would be great if I could get your advice on something, because I'm not sure what I should do. So I just recently started a new job, and trained extensively for 3 weeks. At the end of the 3 weeks, my ex girlfriend accused me of doing something illegal, but she had no proof, it was my word against hers. And so they put me on temporary leave, until a verdict had been decided. I was found not guilty, and I have the option to return to that job. However, my ex girlfriend will still be working there. Should I go back to that job even though my ex my cause me even more problems in the future, or try and get a new job? Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

What IS the job, exactly?

That depends on a few things.

The kind of job: (Will you be working in the same department as her? With her? etc.)

How much you want/ need the job in question.

Are the issues between you and your ex worth going through with this kind of job? If the problem most likely won't be reoccuring, I'd say sure, why not? But if you see more problems arising in the future,I'd say you may have to really consider the costs. Tension between people in the work place not only causes YOU stress, but can also have a significant effect on how well you do your job.

Everyone's toleration level is different, and I don't really know you and your ex, so in a situation like this, just really think about what's best for you, and what YOU can handle.

If the job is something you enjoy and your salary is decent, then I would go back there. Just try and be sensible when you see your ex girlfriend and stay as professional as possible If you do end up going back. Some bosses may increase your wages or promote you, due to the misunderstandings they may feel guilt and not want you to leave as it reflects badly on the workplace.

I think it really depends on if you'll have to see your ex everyday and how well you think you both could handle it.  Will it heavily affect you emotionally everyday?  Will she try to create other problems?  Do you greatly need the income?  These are things I would think about before heading back.  If you won't see her often I'd probably go back, but if she's going to be there and pose a problem for you--whether it be work or personal--I wouldn't do it.  It really depends on the job, how much you need it, and how it pays, of course, but if it's going to cause you personal conflict everyday or make you dread work it probably isn't worth it.

If your ex is willing to accuse you of doing something you didn't do, then I don't think she'll be able to keep your professional relationship professional. I think you should start searching for other jobs and then quit this one when you find something. Did you have any other job offers when you took this job? You can always contact them and see if they still have an opening for you. If not, you should stick with this job if you need it while you search for something new.
