Anyone else think it's a safe bet Willa Holland was called back for both BBSFM AND 2.8?

Posted

Aqua had very minimal lines in the Secret Episode and I always found it hard to believe they'd call Willa Holland back just for a couple scenes (Although, it's not like they haven't done that before. See: Hayden Panettiere for both Blank Points and Dream Drop Distance) With the revelation that 2.8 has been in production for a while, it seems likely that Willa Holland has already voiced her lines as Aqua for BBS 0.2.

What do you guys think?

I don't really use social media, but I appreciate the sentiment. From what I've seen of Willa Holland, both her and her voice fit the character pretty well even if I think she's hit-and-miss throughout BBS. I feel making a video about it is a bit overkill but I'm glad to see someone who's as interested (if not more interested) to see her return for KHIII. Given that she returned for KH2.5 though, I think it's likely she'll continue to voice the character.

Still Kairi had only a few lines in Re chain of memories and Hayden did not return for her there. Anything can happen afterall. If you can please keep praying to the big guy that Willa will be able to return as Aqua, and do not assume anything. If you can, please keep writing posts on this forum about why she means so much to you as Aqua etc. :)

I understand your concern for Aqua's VA for both KH 2.8 and KH3 and I deeply respect it. But I honestly think they should get someone different to voice her. Like a few people have stated, Holland was a decent Aqua but she was not the best. Not even close compared to the Japanese VA of Aqua. Same goes for Terra, they REALLY should change the VA for him. The voice they gave him is so unfitting. But back to the matter at hand, I honestly think they should just move n from Willa if she has other important things to do besides voicing a few lines in a  video game. There are other people who are just as talented voice actors as Willa. It's not like that Willa is the only person capable of voicing Aqua.

Kidding aside, I think her voice is perfect for the character and Jason Dohring is perfect for Terra. (Who else can do the HRRAAAGHH thing as well as him?) BBS had some pretty bad dialogue and that was the first time Willa Holland had ever voice-acted. Playing through the Secret Episode, from the minimal lines she had, I think she did a pretty good job and I greatly liked her work during Blank Points.

It's a nitpicky thing, but I heavily disagree with your opinion. I think the both of them would get better with more time to work on it.

I'm sure she did, a lot of people really love Aqua and I think that if she was interested enough to voice a few lines in 2.5 that she'd be back to voice a few more for 2.8, and she's likely on board for III as well. I mean, it was originally going to be in III in the first place, so it makes sense if she was contracted to voice more lines than 2.5.I think she and Terra's actor were pretty decent, though their earlier scenes are a bit tough to deal with. You can really tell the order they did the voicing sessions based on their deliveries from beginning to end, it's so obvious that they both had a better idea of what their characters were towards the end of the game. Jessie though was spot on, as always, being a seasoned veteran. I think because of that it really helps whenever you get to see and hear those characters again in later games, it really allows you to hear them at their best. That's why I'm really hoping for a full cast return for 2.8 and KH3, as well as a new song by Utada, just to finish things off on a high note.

I agree. Like I said, she's hit-and-miss throughout most of the game. Where she really shines is towards the end. In the Final Episode and Blank Points, she really nails it, I think. If she kept at the role, she could be really good. I like the way she accentuates things, it's unique among every other actor in the series. The problem is sometimes her delivery comes flat, just like the guy who voiced Terra, who also has some really good moments.

I'm hoping to avoid any weirdness, because voice-actor changes bother me greatly. (I'm still annoyed by Kiefer Sutherland voicing Snake in MGSV) I hope they just get someone who can pull a really good Leonard Nimoy impression for MX but it sucks he wasn't able to work on KHIII.

I will say that if I were to pick anyone to fill in Nimoy's role as MX, I'd want Christopher Lloyd to do it. That guy is no stranger to the maniacal villain role, and considering how close their vocal ranges are, I can't honestly imagine anyone else voicing old Xehanort. Heck, he might practically be old enough to BE Master Xehanort, so the age would definitely show in the voice. And come on, after having the voices of Star Wars and Star Trek grace the series, I think it's only fitting to bring in some more sci-fi-ness by bringing in some Back To the Future talent. I believe he's also voiced for Disney a few times before, so he'd certainly be a welcome edition.

Also, I have this pretty pathetic fantasy of Xehanort freezing Sora or someone else and shouting "You were FROZEN TODAY!!!" xD

Do not forget too he reprised his Doc Brown role recently for Lego Dimensions which btw is a lot like KH and I would highly recommend just to watch a play through let alone play. :)

But like some else said on the forum, Scott Glenn would be amazing as Xehanort from this clip alone:

He and Nimoy have the same kind of gravelly voice and demeanour and I instantly think of Xehanort whenever I hear him.  TheKHRP said he'd even consider him for his reboot project.I also suggested James Spader a while back to but even though he killed it as Ultron, I'm not so sure his voice is gravelly enough. Perhaps if he could alter it, but Glenn is my top pick

I respect your opinion too but if you can I'd like you to consider what I have to say in my video here

As many people have pointed out Aqua's character is pretty much what Willa imbedded into her lines: not to sound like I disrespect her but she is wise as a master and tends to have the most modest, unbiased opinions, "her sense of right and wrong never wavers", therefore her voice does sound kind of, for lack of a better explanation, general or monotone with a lac k of a full expression. Sure she could have been better at times yes, but overall she nailed the true demeanour of who Aqua is. She can only get better, as many have pointed out through her few new lines in 2.5. Bottom line is that Willa IS Aqua. They are both confident in who they are, never overthinking or analyzing anything, both value their friends and consider them part of their prominent support system. They also both do not express their full emotions for fear of being vulnerable or letting them control who they are or who they could be.

Oh believe me, I do intend on getting that....at some point....when I have the money for it....On that topic though, I am going to check out the Back to The Future trilogy screening this week, I am SO HYPED! :D

I guess Glenn might have what it takes, but I don't watch Daredevil (yet) so I haven't been as exposed to his voice as I have to Lloyd's. Also, my point being that Lloyd has been a Disney veteran before, so he might have a slightly better chance than anyone else.

And yeah, despite people's opinions, I think Willa IS Aqua. I literally can't imagine anyone else voicing the character. I kind of always got the vibe that she was a somewhat emotionally-restrained character, in that she tried not to react too strongly in either direction depending on the circumstance. This allows her to come off as a calm, cool, and collected individual so that when the true disasters happen you can really feel the emotion going behind her voice. And although I do agree that she shines a bit better towards the later half of the game, she's all the better for it because I think so far every line she's had as Aqua since then has been pretty much the same quality as her end-of-game voice, and I think it will just get better and better with time.

  • 3 months later...

I find that in this clip http://www.etonline.com/tv/180420_arrow_season_4_sneak_peek_thea_doubts_everything/, I am reminded of Aqua not only through her voice of course but her mannerisms and emotional integrity. As much as I loved her as Aqua already, I really think that if she does come back for 2.8/III she will be able to bring an even greater emotional range to her line delivery and performance since she has gotten more experience playing this kind of role of on Arrow.
