Square Enix's future PS2 Classic possibilities

Posted

After a bit of research I've gone through all of Square Enix's PS2 games and ranked them in order how likely they will be re-released as PS2 Classics. Anything not here I've ruled out. Of course, there may be licensing issues for a title here that we don't know about. I am not listing Eidos games here either.

Likely

Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-

Front Mission 4

Drakengard

Drakengard 2

Good chance

Musashi: Samurai Legend

Front Mission 5: Scars of the War - Japan

Dawn of Mana

Unlimited SaGa - Japan

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

Decent chance

The Bouncer

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

Radiata Stories

Romancing SaGa - North America

Grandia III - North America

Code Age Commanders: Tsugu Mono Tsuga Reru Mono - Japan

Unlimited SaGa - North America & Europe/Australia

Robot Alchemic Drive

Grandia Xtreme - North America

It's something you can't rule out.

They could, but who in Square Enix cares about Drakengard? Star Ocean nearly died and it's bigger than Drakengard because hardly anyone cared. SE kinda likes Shiba btw, they do make him run one of their divisions. It's all up to him.

Square Enix doesn't do their remasters internally. Only Nomura does for some stupid reason.

Well, I never said that it was a guarantee, you were just being disproportionately pessimistic just because of initial sales of the original release. Square Enix has stated that they are going to revive old IP's. Drakengard fits into that category. It's an old IP. You personally do not work for Square Enix so throwing phrases like "who cares about this and that IP" is generalising of the worst kind if you do not have cold hard evidence like an official press release.

As far Nomura doing the Kingdom Hearts remasters internally, there's three respectable reasons for that. First off, Kingdom Hearts is a Disney property and having an internal remaster would get both Disney and Square Enix more profit than having it remastered externally, secondly, the HD Remasters were a fantastic way to seam the storylines together far more effectively as a HD package on a singular console as opposed to spreading it in various consoles, and finally, it was fantastic coding and plot reminder experience for the Osaka team as they are going to be the primary developers of Kingdom Hearts 3.

Actually, Drakengard isn't old. They just had a new title which bombed.

Whatever the reasons, it has nothing to do with this.

Keep wishing for a Drakengard HD collection. It's never happening. Lol.

How can you read the argument if you don't even understand my perspective in the first place

I said a HD Remaster Collection not an entirely new game. Drakengard is an established IP. Zone of the Enders was a franchise that bombed really hard for Konami and yet they released a remastered collection for that game. Granted, the porting was lazy on Konami's part but it happened anyway.

Square Enix can easily have an external HD remasters of all three of the games externally, release it as a package and be done with the IP. If Square Enix stated that they are reviving IP's and keeping them relevant then you can best believe that a Drakengard HD Collection may eventually happen in the future.

Yes, and that Zone of the Enders scenario would be your best possible hope. When they said that they were more talking about Star Ocean, Front Mission, Tomb Raider, Hitman etc.

No. When they were saying that they will ensure their IP's stay relevant: they weren't cherry picking. They mean that for all of their owned IP's.

If they were cherry picking "Star Ocean, Front Mission, Tomb Raider, Hitman etc." then they would have said so
