So i was re watching the entire dragon ball anime including everything from canon to non canon. I couldn't help but notice that fusion has literally NEVER worked ever except for one movie. Has anyone else caught on to this. Everything from namek fusions to Saiyan fusions its never ended a fight except for janemba in a non canon movie. Why would they keep trying this instead of just abusing zenkai's.

Gotenks and Vegetto technically worked. Gotenks seemingly defeated Super Buu until he was absorbed because plot. Vegetto's plan was to let Super Buu absorb him in hopes of infiltrating Buu's insides, which did work even if it kind of was a Batman Gambit.

 

Also, Piccolo's fusion with both Nail and Kami still held off Freeza and Android 17 respectively, even if it was only for a short amount of time, but really, in those types of situations, as well as the Gotenks-Buu scenario I mentioned, it's be expected.

 

Also, abusing Zenkai's ala Vegeta making Kuririn blast a hole in his chest would just be lazy storytelling, and plus, each villain is about ten times stronger than the last one, so it wouldn't really help much anyway. Plus you have to factor in stuff like regeneration, speed, durability, etc.

I don't really understand that either. Maybe Toriyama didn't want to end main conflicts with characters that weren't just Goku. lol Gotenks would have defeated buu if it weren't for the time limit on the fusion, because he was in SSJ3, but that was contrived in order to make super buu more powerful. Vegito didn't figure that being absorbed into buu's body would have him split back into Vegeta and Goku, otherwise they would have beat buu too.

Vegetto was planning on let Buu absorb him. Him splitting back into Goku and Vegeta was the part he didn't expect.

But on the flip side to that the vegito fusion technically made things worse. By letting buu absorb him it led to the chain of events that recreated kid buu and got the earth blown up, so the fusion still kinda failed. Also on the point of the zekai's, goku got a weird over 3 million power up on namek after battling ginyu so abusing it could've solved any problem.

Not every plan is going to work. There's never a final resolution that can be made through one single action, and for what it's worthed, the Fusions played a part in the progression of events that lead to the final conclusion.

 

Goku's power only shot up to 3 million, not plus 3 million. Either way, again, it's bad storytelling and Goku got injured shortly after and needed to recover anyway, so in a way, it was taken care of.
