Under orders of the current reigning Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, Konohagakure has reached an alliance with Tarinai Village, a small, recently formed ninja village host to many new budding ninja clans. The village head reached out to Uzumaki in hopes of economic stability due to the village’s poor recession as of late, and thus, the alliance has allowed Tarinai ninja to make their stay in Konoha and work with Konoha’s crop of shinobi...

|| "WELCOME TO KONOHA" Arc -- START ||

An early afternoon is usually a busy one for the citizens of Konoha, but even more so now that visitors from Tarinai Village were making their stay at the most frequent pace. Houses were being bought, carriages of supplies were being carried throughout the streets, and some citizens took to exploring the cityscape to get a good read of their new home.

Two in particular, both young boys, stood outside the Hokage's Office, having just left after finishing their record transfers to become official Konoha shinobi, including being given official Konoha shinobi headbands.

"Not too shabby, huh Koukon? I mean, I really feel like a shinobi now. Things are lookin' great so far," Kinniku said, tying his headband to his right arm. The very sight of a headband was impressive to Kinniku due to Tarinai's funding not even being able to supply headbands at all.

Koukon's confidence wavered for a moment as he realized that Boruto countered his attack with a Substitution Jutsu. Boruto's follow-up attack with Shadow Clones seemed much more manageable, however. As the clones closed in, Koukon formed the Boar Seal once again. He zipped out of the way of their attacks, reappearing a short distance away. I'm already starting to feel exhausted... I'll have to be careful with my next usage of Swift Style. He thought to himself, masking his fatigue beneath a cocky smirk. "Multiple targets would be tough to deal with using just Taijutsu... Good thing I have the perfect technique to deal with this." He formed more hand seals. "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" Four fireballs circled out from Koukon's position and began to rapidly move towards their destinations. Three were aimed towards the group of Shadow Clones, while one more was sent towards the tree.

Even as his clones were engulfed by the flames, Boruto did not falter.

Nice try, but I won't go down that easy!

Boruto quickly sped through hand seals and puffed up his chest. "Water Style: Liquid Burst Jutsu!" Borutot then shot a torrent of water out of his mouth that sped straight through the the fireball and straight towards Koukon himself.

Crap! The torrent of water came too suddenly for Koukon to be able to simply dodge out of the way. Boruto's attack was a direct hit, knocking Koukon backwards a few feet. He eventually fell onto his back, seemingly down. However, in a few moments, the boy lying in the grass slowly pulled himself back up onto his feet. He was a little shaky, but the determination in his voice hadn't wavered. "If you think that's all it takes to defeat me, you're in for a surprise... I don't care if you're the Hokage's son, I'm not going to lose this fight!" He tightened his headband and assessed his situation. Swift Style took more energy out of me than I expected... I'm going to have to make this quick.

Rizumu let out a cheer. "Yeah, Koukon!"

Her teammate on the battlefield blushed a bit. I really can't lose now if she's getting excited here... Once again, Koukon formed the Boar seal. This is it... my last shot with this technique. If I screw up, it's over... I'll have to give it all I've got! "Yougan Clan Secret Technique: Speed Blitz Jutsu!" He quickly smirked before moving. Heh, that name sounded cool.

Koukon began to zip around the battlefield, momentarily appearing and disappearing in a zig-zag pattern towards Boruto. Suddenly, he reappeared a very short distance from the tree, his hands positioned into the Tiger seal. "Take this!" He exclaimed... then disappeared once again.

Once he had materialized for the final time, he was on a branch behind Boruto, crouching down with the Tiger seal still formed. And then... he jabbed his fingers upward, aiming for Boruto's rear. "Haaaaaah!" He shouted, hoping his attack would land.

Boruto struggled to keep up with Koukon's speed as he initiated his attack.

I wasn't expecting this at all. He's moving so fast, I--

Before he knew it, Koukon was already behind Boruto, who turned around to see Koukon closing in with this fingers aimed for his lower regions. However, his timing could not prepare him for the oncoming assault...

Koukon laughed. "Got ya!" He instantly separated his hands and clenched one into a fist, then quickly aimed an uppercut punch at Boruto's jaw. The punch landed, and Koukon hoped it would be enough for him to win the battle. He wasn't sure how much longer he could last...

"Oof!" Boruto let out a grunt as the fist lifted him up into the air.

Catching his balance as he fell towards the ground, he landed safely, though still feeling the sting of the blow on his mouth. He looked up to Koukon. "Well, I know when I'm beat. Nice job, newbie."

"Alright!" Koukon jumped down from the tree, but even though he landed on his feet, he instantly slipped and landed on his behind, letting out a little yelp as his feet gave way. When he realized that he slipped up in front of the others, his face turned a little red and he let out a nervous chuckle. "Heh... I guess I pushed myself a little too hard there. I'm still learning to control my Swift Style, and it takes a lot of energy for me to use it now... I probably used it more than I should have in that fight." He explained to the others. I guess this just means that I'll have to push myself to last longer with that technique. He mentally noted.

Rizumu was impressed with her partner's final attack. "Great job out there, Koukon! You too, Boruto!" She shouted as she hopped up from her seat and went over to the two. "Need any help, Koukon? Or are you planning on sitting here for the next match?" She teased the boy, whose signs of fatigue were becoming more apparent now that the battle had ended. His breathing was heavier than usual, and he looked about ready to pass out.

"Nah, I don't think this would be a good spot to see the battle." Koukon grinned, though it clearly took more effort than usual. Rizumu helped him up to his feet and supported him so he could stand. However, before they could start moving back to the others, Koukon held out his hand to Boruto so they could make the Seal of Reconciliation. "You were really tough, Boruto. I won't let you surpass me, though. We're rivals now, got it?" He asked, still grinning.

"Sure, 'rivals'... if that's how you wanna put it. I was going easy on ya, anyway, so it's not too surprising that you won. Just imagine what would have happened if I decided to take it seriously, heh heh," Boruto bragged.

"You sure about that?" Kinniku and Sarada said in unison.

"What, I was kidding! Geez!" Boruto whined. "Okay, but for real: that was a good match. We should do it again sometime," Boruto added, reaching his hand out to form the Unison Sign and officially end the sparring match.

"Yeah, we should." Koukon responded, already bursting with excitement at the idea of a rematch. As much as he wanted to take on the other people in the village, He felt like Boruto would be a great sparring partner.

"Before then, you should probably rest." Rizumu let out a short laugh. She helped her teammate back over to the others, and once he was sitting down, she faced Mitsuki. "Now then, we're going to be the ones deciding this little tournament, right?" She asked calmly. I have no clue what this kid's capable of... The other two fight like their parents, but I don't know what to expect out of the son of Orochimaru. This could be tough. She thought to herself as she tried to study her opponent. It didn't give her an idea of how he'd fight, but maybe she'd come up with some sort of plan while they talked.

"That's right. I'm sure this will be an interesting encounter." Mitsuki said.

As the others went back to the tree and Mitsuki squared off against Rizumu, he began assessing the task at hand. Tarinai is a village full of shinobi with unique abilities. Judging by how Kinniku and Koukon fought, Rizumu should be no different. I should prepare myself for anything. He then rose his hand up to form the Sign of Confrontation.

  • 3 months later...

Rizumu nodded. "Yeah, it definitely will be," she said as she formed the Sign of Confrontation with Mitsuki. After doing so, she immediately jumped backwards to get some more distance between the two. I'll keep my distance until I can get a good idea of how he fights. That should help. She formed a few hand seals. "Lightning Style: Lightning Strike Jutsu!" She held her left palm out in front of her. It sparked, then a bolt of lightning formed in front of it and shot out towards Mitsuki.

  • Author

"Fairly impressive, but..."

Mitsuki formed his own hand seals, ending with the snake sign. "Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" A powerful gust of wind shot forth from Mitsuki's location, nullifying the lightning bolt as it dissipated into small particles.

"Wind beats Lightning. She'll have to try harder then that," Sarada commented.

"Yeah, looks like Mitsuki's already got this in the bag!" Boruto boasted.

"Don't count on it. It's only the first move. Even we don't know what kind of tricks Rizumu still has up her sleeve. Right, Koukon?"

  • 2 months later...

"Yeah. Just because Mitsuki got one good counter in doesn't mean that he's gonna win against her!" Koukon exclaimed. "Come on Rizumu, you can do it!"

Rizumu kept her focus aimed at Mitsuki as she tried to shield herself from Mitsuki's own attack. Wind Style... I'll have to be careful with my Lightning Style ninjutsu, then. Once she had the chance, she momentarily lowered her guard and stood still. Still looking directly at Mitsuki, she suddenly began to hum.

"Uh... what's that all about?" Koukon scratched his head. "I mean, it sounds nice, but... is this the time for that?"

It's time to use the Onkyou Clan's Kekkei Genkai... Our Otojutsu! Rizumu's humming kept at a soothing melody, although its purpose wasn't nearly as soothing as the sound let on. This technique would throw Mitsuki into an illusion that would put him face to face with something he feared; Rizumu could only hope that her genjutsu abilities were powerful enough for this to work as intended.

  • Author

"Hmm? What is this?" Mitsuki said.

Being caught off guard as much as the others were by Rizumu's humming, he was immediately trapped in her technique. The ever nonchalant Mitsuki then changed from his usual smile to a completely blank expression. Though he appeared to be staring absentmindedly ahead, in Rizumu's illusion, he began a much different experience...

"What's up with him?" Kinniku asked.

"You tell me, she's the one that did it." Boruto said.

"It looks like Mitsuki's trapped in some kind of genjutsu..." Sarada said.

"We haven't seen her fight until now, either. I have no clue what this is..." Koukon muttered. "If it's a genjutsu, it doesn't look like a really happy illusion."

Rizumu smirked. Now there's an opening! She immediately went into motion, running over towards Mitsuki. Once she'd closed the distance enough, she formed her hand seals again, aimed a kick at Mitsuki in the hopes of pushing him back further while dealing some damage, and when there was a sufficient gap between the two, she then activated her jutsu. "Lightning Style: Lightning Strike Jutsu!"

  • Author

His body prone for attack, Mitsuki was pushed back by Rizumu's kick and was struck by her lightning attack as well. The impact was so powerful, it launched Mitsuki into the air, his body falling towards the nearby lake, though his body was still sparking with electricity from the hit.

"What the-- snap out of it Mitsuki!" Boruto said.

"He's still trapped in the illusion. C'mon, Boruto!" Sarada said.

"Right!" The two ninja quickly leaped forward into the lake, landing on top of the water and stabilizing their position by focusing chakra into the soles of their feet. They dashed once more to land under the spot where Mitsuki was heading towards, catching him in their arms, and quickly taking him to solid ground.

"Is he alright?" Boruto asked, Sarada looking over Mitsuki.

"He'll be fine." She said. Boruto quickly turned to Sarada with a enraged expression.

"Nice going, ya idiot! You could have killed him back there! What's the big idea with--" His ranting was silenced when Sarada, not looking up from Mitsuki, quickly socked Boruto in the ribs.

"Please pay him no mind," She was clearly concerned for Mitsuki but did not bear a sense of malice towards Rizumu like Boruto did. "It wasn't your fault."

Kinniku was shocked, having been watching the entire scenario play out without even an urge to comment throughout. "Man... Rizumu..."

Rizumu's smirk faded when she realized that she'd pushed Mitsuki a little too far. She was unable to move for a moment, but after Boruto and Sarada both gave their outbursts, she took action. "Mitsuki!" She ran over to the other team, her eyes wide and her speaking now in a more frantic tone. "I'm so, so sorry, I didn't realize that I was hitting him so hard, or that he'd go there... Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked Boruto and Sarada.

Koukon, still next to Kinniku, was equally impressed. "Wow... she's a lot tougher than I thought she'd be..." Maybe I should be a little more careful with what I say around her. "Hey, uh, do you think we should go check in on Mitsuki, too?"

  • Author

"Don't worry. We'll get Mitsuki over to a medical-nin in the village. C'mon, Boruto." Sarada signaled Boruto to pick up Mitsuki's now unconscious body.

"Right..." Boruto lifted down, carrying Mitsuki's legs while Sarada held him from his front. "Sorry about snappin' at you by the way. No hard feelings," Boruto said.

The two then hurried out of the training grounds and back to the village. Seeing them leave, Kinniku joined Rizumu on the other side of the lake.

"Well... that could have gone better..." Kinniku tried to lighten the mood given the heavy circumstances that transpired.

  • 4 weeks later...

"Yeah..." Rizumu muttered as she fixed her gaze at the grass beneath her. I really messed up this time...

"Yeah, probably..." Koukon agreed with his best friend. "Hey, why don't we head back into town? All this fighting made me a little hungry, to be honest," he said in the hopes of cheering up his comrades. I'd ask Rizumu about what she did earlier, but this probably isn't the best time.

  • Author

"Sounds good. Don't worry about what happened Rizumu. Like Sarada said, it wasn't your fault. Let's just cheer up a bit and look forward to tomorrow. We're meeting our new sensei after all!"

With that, the three ventured back to the village, filled their stomaches, and finished up with some final training for the day (or at least Kinniku did).

|| THE NEXT DAY... ||

The three were given instructions to wait in one of the many classrooms in the Academy and wait for the Jonin ranked ninja that would be chosen for their sensei. They had been waiting for some time now...

Kinniku casually sat on one of the many seats, arms crossed against his chest and feet resting on the seat in front. "I hope whoever's leading us is from a strong clan. There's a lot of them in this village and it'd be a shame to miss out on a golden opportunity like that."

  • 2 weeks later...

In the classroom, Koukon and Rizumu sat on either side of Kinniku. Rizumu sat up straight with her arms folded on top of the desk, while Koukon tapped his foot and hunched over the desk. "I'd be really interested in seeing another clan from the Leaf, too," Rizumu responded.

"Whoever they are, they'd better get here soon... Nothing's worth a wait this long," Koukon grumbled.

"Maybe they had to finish up a report? Jonin are really busy, Koukon," Rizumu suggested.

"Yeah, but their mission is to come teach us! What else could be holding them up?" Koukon leaned back in his chair, tipping it over so that the front legs were off the ground and he was balanced on the back two.

A couple moments later, the door opened up. A teenage girl stepped into the room; she had red hair that reached down to her waist, bright blue eyes, and wore the traditional Jonin uniform. Koukon, being the first to get a good look at her, got too caught up in staring and tipped his chair back too far, causing it to tip over along with him. The two toppled over on the floor as Koukon let out a quick yelp. He quickly got back up to his feet and rubbed the back of his head.

"You three are the Genin from Tarinai Village, right?" the girl asked.

"Yeah!" Koukon exclaimed. "Are you here to take us to our leader? We've been waiting ages to meet 'em."

"Well, I guess you could put it that way..." the girl smirked. "I'm Yumi Uzumaki, and as of now, I'm your team leader!"

"Wait... what?!" Koukon's jaw dropped and he struggled to find the right words for the situation.

"You're our sensei? You don't look that much older than us..." Rizumu noted.

"Well, I'm pretty talented for a 17 year old," Yumi boasted.

  • Author

Uzumaki, huh? Kinniku grinned. That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

He got out of his chair and proudly asserted himself to the Jonin. "My name's Kinniku Mariki from the Mariki Clan. The dumbbell drooling over there is Kokon Yogan and the lovely young lady here is Rizumu Onkyo."

"Let me just say first off that I totally believe that you're super talented. Anybody with a name such as yourself has gotta be top tier."

Rizumu joked Kinniku in walking over to their new sensei. "I believe you, too. I just wasn't expecting our leader to be so close to us in age," she explained.

Yumi smiled at the two. "It's fine, I understand. Also, thank you, Kinniku! I'm sure you're all skilled as well, considering that you were chosen to come all the way out here to train."

Koukon rushed over to his teammates, trying to straighten up. "I would never doubt your skills either, Yumi sensei!" He put on a wide grin. "Like Kinniku said, I'm Koukon Yougan. I'm gonna be the great hero of Tarinai Village!"

Yep, there he goes again. Kinniku smirked as Koukon prattled on. He really likes pulling that card out of his deck.

"I actually have a goal a bit more ambitious than that..." Kinniku said. He had pondered this dream ever since he first heard about Tarinai's new alliance with Konoha, as well as the legacy they had because of their ninja...

"See... I'm going to be the next Hokage."

"Wait... since when did you want to be the Hokage?" Koukon asked his best friend, his confident grin fading as he gave a small frown. "This is the first time I've heard you mention that."

Yumi also seemed a bit shocked by Kinniku's statement. "A Hokage from Tarinai Village, huh...? That would be interesting." She smiled. "You've got a lot of competition for the spot, though... Myself included."
