This name change of the Vanitas secret boss has me thinking. Exactly why would it be translated to "spirit"?

Theory: As I have theorized in previous threads, I believe that the soul will be the next KH enemy. This makes me believe that the Vanitas' Lingering Spirit is a representation of this speculated new enemy, also considering the fact that this boss fight most likely is canon, as well as the Mysterious Figure fight.

I think it's because spirit is a more accurate translation than sentiment. Who came up with the translation "sentiment" anyway ? KHII Final Mix wasn't ever officially translated was it ? So the Lingering Sentiment thing was just a fan-made translation to begin with and maybe should be changed to the official one.

One hole in that theory, i'm afraid. When someone with a strong heart becomes a heartless the body and the soul leftover go on to form their nobody.

I think like what he said , new enemy (soul)

i think they changed it to lingering spirit cuz they already hav terra as lingering sentiment

There's not going to be any soul enemy since the soul is a part of a Nobody...

Also, i believe the Vanitas Lingering Spirit is just an Unversed

Let me post a part of my theory about this from another thread (off of memory)

If a persons Nobody gets destroyed before their Heartless, where do you think the soul goes?

Quote from KH Wiki:

Therefore, it is assumed that the soul is the spirit or ghost that leaves the body upon death.

You guys just complicate things. As I said the name Lingering Sentiment came from fanmade translations and it was never an official translation. Now when the professionals had come to take over we finally have it translated right. In japanese (Vanitas no Shinnen) literally means Vanitas's Spirit. Keep it simple guys ;)

Mm, yeah I'm with Shyny on this. :)

i just want an exuse not to think so im with shyny.like that whole roxas asking sora "why did he choose you" every one was just like "firetruck it its a miss-translation for it as in keyblade.if you havent noticed i like using "" alot we """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""' ya fun do it at parties

Well I wonder about that. Personally I think that it is an absurd question from Roxas. Why would he ask him such a thing ? Why question his right to wield the Keyblade ? Except for the KH Wikipedia information, which is based on someone's personal judgement only, there is no guarantee that this interpretation is correct. It can refer to something else like Ventus or Ansem. Nonetheless it is probably indeed just a mistranslation, however, since I couldn't find how the sentence looks in japanese I cannot really say.

I'm not making this speculation just because of this translation.

It's something I've been thinking of. Think about it. Yeah, when a Nobody and Heartless are destroyed, a person is revived, woo-hoo.

But what happens when the person is killed? Their souls leave their bodies, correct? And what is a soul with no body or heart. A spirit.

Vanitas was killed without having a Heartless or a Nobody..

Hmmmmm.
