Why does Sora and Riku look younger in 3D?

Posted

I'm trying to answer some questions in Discord and I can't remember if the reason was because they went back in time when they went to Destiny Islands or if there was another reason.

it was part of Yen Sids magic.  It doesn't really explain further but my interpretation of it is that he made them look younger so they could toss away their "self taught" mastery and pre-conceived notions and start over anew, learning how to be masters from scratch

But I thought his magic only changed their clothes, but it was that fact that they went back in time that changed their bodies.

  • When both of them are in the reality parts, they don’t return to their original bodies. Why is that?

It’s because of Yen Sid’s magic that they’ve taken their old forms. If they didn’t return to Yen Sid’s place, their bodies wouldn’t return back to normal. Incidentally, their new outfits were thanks to Yen Sid’s magic as Sora suspected.

  • In the latter half of The World That Never Was, despite returning to the real world, why do Sora and Riku stay in their younger forms, and why do Dream Eaters appear etc?

Sora and Riku’s form is due to Yen Sid’s magic, so the way it works is that they can’t turn back until they return to the Mysterious Tower. And Dream Eaters were appearing because Sora was still asleep. Also, ever since Organization XIII was defeated in KH2, The World That Never Was’s existence as a world became uncertain. In the first place, the worlds in the void between darkness and light have different rules than other worlds. The Mysterious Tower isn’t always standing in a fixed place, for example, and Traverse Town reforms its shape every time, which is why the version that appears in this title is clearly different than the version in KH1.

Being in their younger bodies before they were self taught helped them start from scratch and learn the "proper way".

Thanks Flaming Lea!

In order to go back in time, there must be a version of you at your destination. And when Destiny Islands was consumed by Darkness, Sora and Riku were younger. Xigbar even tells Sora why he's younger. "You were able to go back in time because a past version of you already existed there!"

Dang, you beat me to it. xD

Peace!

I can't wrap my head around the explanations for them looking younger, or the time travel stuff, for that matter.

i always thought the real world explanation was that their younger character models fit better on screen during actual gameplay than their older ones.

the in game excuse is just Yen Sid's magic i guess.

But I thought his magic only changed their clothes, but it was that fact that they went back in time that changed their bodies.

like i said that was just my interpretation.  Im not sure exactly why because they dont really talk about it, but you could be right too
