Maybe it's Sora that looks like Vanitas and not the other way around. When Vanitas was created Sora was still a little kid so they technically didn't looked alike until Sora got older when he already had Ventus heart inside him.

I think the guy playing Ven stop to go and sleep.

Xehanort unlocked his heart with his keyblade and took over Terra's body and Terra's heart was somehow sealed in his armor and became the Lingering Sentiment who then beat up Terranort.

You should probably follow Nomura's order because it seems the story will make more sense that way but like Nomura said it is the players choice.

Good to see somebody else notice the longer bang too, I don't think Vanitas look like any of the current characters and the more they revealed the less likely it seem he has appear in the series at all.
