  1. diminishing returns after a while, filling out everyone's sphere grid is going to lose its luster, with no new battles or cutscenes to push you forward
  2. it's not the same situation at all. Tetris is a puzzle game that is mathematical perfection. Little King's Story is a game that was well recieved, but veyr few people knew about. It's not a matter of not caring for something, it's the fact that something was deemed excellent by a wide variety of sources, but people didn't buy it for one reason or another. the point isn't about any one person's subjective feelings, it's the fact that quality alone doesn't sell a game
  3. Mario is an important game, Tetris is a perfect game your views on it may vary, but we're not talking about an individuals, we're talking about general reception
  4. finally that underground series can get its chance partially brand loyalty was a big part
  5. now have fun picking which versions is the best one
  6. the actually games are signficantly different though, one is ATB, one is turn based, one is linear, one has a world map, one has defined class, the other has a party of mage knights even the world and story are pretty significantly different though of course, they do take place in the same universe
  7. the games are honestly barely comparable
  8. Sora96 pointing out that the DS port of Chrono Trigger sold poorly reminded me to make this topic Games aren't sold on quality. There are many factors that can lead to a game selling well, but the quality of the game is pretty far down the list Here's an example: How many of you own the best game on the Wii? Not many, because Little King's Story only managed to move 50,000 units How many of you bought, or even know about Radiant Historia, one of the best RPGs of the last decade or so? Who bought Okami on the original PS2? Who liked Majora's Mask before the internet made it cool? Same question but with Earthbound Hype sells games, word of mouth sells games, youtubers sell games, fancy trailers sell games, pretty graphics sell games But something pretty low on people's priority list is buying a game on the simple fact that it's good. It's not irrational, and it's not a flaw, I'm just as guilty of this. Games are expensive, so people want games they're excited about to be good, rather than unknowns. It's basic risk reduction But it's something worth keeping in mind, the best games will be remembered post mortem. The games that were popular will simply have their problems glossed over
  9. 100 points = 1 dollar doesn't seem confusing enough that a person wouldn't get it. Or emulate it, as you might be forced to do ("Gee, I wonder why Chrono sold bad... maybe it has something to do with us not releasing it in half the world?") The DS version's added content was pretty insubstantial. All the extra dungeons were major grindfests with lackluster rewards. The only notable addition was the five second new ending they added that tied it to Chrono Cross. And again, for comparison, Final Fantays IV DS came out around the same time, was cheaper, and was a full 3D remake with sweeping revisions and voice acting. The least they could've done with Chrono is make it cheaper, since it was little more than a straight port Basically, Chrono does bad because Square Enix sets it up to do bad, it's not the fans fault they have standards
  10. but the point is that virtual console SNES games were 8 dollars Chrono Trigger DS was sold for 45
  11. not bad taste, FFX is a deeply flawed game in many respects this quote was when they released a barebones port for the DS and charged more than a full 3D remake of FF4. It was great for me, who hadn't played Chrono Trigger yet, but offered very little to fans (outside a scene that ties it to Cross) Square was stupid to think this would sell well, when you can get the original on Virtual Console for 8 bucks
  12. Chrono Trigger turned 20, not 14
  13. yeah, but nearly all of the endings are just beating the game at different points (for example if you beat the final boss at the very start with just Crono you get an ending where the devs congratulate you) since you're on New Game Plus at that point you can easily blast through the game, getting the endings as you go. I got all the endings in one sitting after beating the game
  14. Xehanort believes he's the hero but he's definitely not he overwrights people's hearts with his own he outright murdered several people he's released three separate types of monsters into all of the worlds his keyblade has a freaking goat's head on it
  15. it's just an edgy opinion for people who want to pretend they have standards by claiming they hate a bunch of people they never met
  16. the sky needs to be a different colour kh1 is at night, kh2 is at midday we need the final time of day from the original KH1 choices
  17. CT is really more of a 15-20 hour game I 100%ed it, and it didn't take that long
  18. so thinking kh is kiddy is objectively dumb, no bias? doesn't apply to a select group of people? liking xion s dumb because xion is a dumb character
  19. how do you inadvertently call someone stupid in a topic about calling people stupid and what's "stupid" about dismissing KH for being childish? Fact is, this is a topic dedicated to calling people with different opinions stupid, and getting offended that your particular opinion was on the chopping block is pretty silly
  20. "inadvertently" You know in a topic about calling KH fans stupid also, this is a pretty strange thing to say, since what you're saying is in turn bashing our opinions
  21. if you've actually played all the games, you should know that's not true
  22. implying opinions can't be stupid in theory, maybe they are, but simply by Team Xehanort existing, they have no chance of success. The best they can hope for is a teaser near the end that suggests they'll gain something in the next series you can pretty easily skip Days or Coded I mean people skipped Chain of Memories back in the day and it turned out fine
  23. unlike fanboys who bring nothing but respect to this franchise
  24. it really doesn't it looks exactly like KHDDD staggering, and that worries me deeply
  25. Game Balance Kinda agree, kinda disagree. BBS had well designed normal bosses, but clunky gameplay and truly awful secret bosses. Definitely a major issue with making most abilities useless and basic combos might as well not exist (and don't even bother with combo plus) Staggering wholeheartedly agree. staggering is a huge problem in BBS and DDD, and I'm worried that's how it looks in KH3 as well. Getting combos plus seems like a self imposed hard mode, rather than an upgrade Dodging Really there's no issue with dodges having lots of invincibility frames. It's just that the battles devolved into dodge spamming rather than having actual patterns to learn and predict, or something Live Environments Never mind that those were handheld games, where it's amazing they even got the graphics they did, so rendering a bunch of NPCs is impractical, but it takes a tonne of work to make NPC models in the KH universe because Disney characters all look distinct. I've said it before, but KH1 boasts 100 unique Disney characters. That's a lot. Later games had even more. Especially now that it's HD, it'll be harder than ever to fill the worlds with NPCs
