  1. A great game can have next to no story (DOTA 2, Hearthstone, etc) but a great game can't have next to no gameplay imo. Walking simulators such as Gone Home shouldn't be considered a game. They have more in common with Visual Novels (which aren't games).I think the best games have a balance of both, but I think gameplay is more necessary since without it you just have a visual novel or an interactive movie.
  2. It's not "the exact same". Each chapter gave you different fights (combinations of previous bosses) and different cutscenes and there were some hidden dungeons that don't unlock automatically. Some people really hated it because they skipped the optional fights but for me they were really cool. I get not liking it, but I found it a more fun way to grind than just beating weak monsters with no story elements.
  3. Bravely Default was pretty good despite the padding. The world reset itself about 4 times but each time you fought different versions of the bosses and they became more sympathetic each time. The way it dealt with the character development of the villains was really great and made the game repeating itself more bearable.
  4. Haha, I'd be flattered, but I don't think anyone could do a better job that Sora96. I have a habit of not being active for months or years at a time, so I wouldn't be able to be a replacement for him.
  5. Hyped! MIstwalker studios, opened by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, is making a new game in collaboration with Bravely Default devs Silicon Studio. The only information we have at the moment is the concept art shown below: Read more: http://gematsu.com/2016/02/silicon-studio-mistwalker-announce-joint-development-new-title
  6. Square Enix have released a number of screen shots for their upcoming JRPG Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness as well as information regarding the game's protagonists. 7. I wish you well for your future. We may not have seen eye to eye on things (esp. FFXIII related things) but I appreciate everything you have done for this site. KH13 will certainly be less interesting without you around.
  8. Yeah, I guess there are a few more. Thief was horrible so I think it definitely deserved that score, don't know about the others.
  9. Yeah, 8's are good. A 70 Metacritic, though, means it has a lower score than 50% of all games, which means it is below average. I still enjoy plenty of games with low scores but anything below a 75 should be considered a critical failure (which is very rare for Square Enix games, with only a few like Type-0 HD and Lightning Returns failing).
  10. Most Western publishers expect a Metacritic above 85 for a game to be considered critically successful (the most famous example of this is Bethesda with New Vegas, which got a 84 and made the devs miss a bonus)... by many publishers standards all three Final Fantasy XIII games would have been critical failures. I agree that 8's are good scores but from the perspective of the game's industry those scores are just slightly above average.
  11. I acknowledged that the Japanese praised the game. I guess if we are only talking about Japan and not the rest of the world then your original comment is true.
  12. Yeah, FFXIII received a few good reviews but each subsequent game got progressively worse scores. I'm not denying that the series was successful, just that it wasn't critically acclaimed. If it ended on XIII then maybe you could say the game was successful both commercially and critically but as it stands it is only a commercial success.
  13. LMAO. I'm not hating. Just stating facts, They weren't critically acclaimed in the West and received some of the worst reviews ever for the series.Your comment was fair until you edited in an unnecessary insult.
  14. I wouldn't call the XIII series "acclaimed". Lightning Returns has a 66 Metacritic, XIII-2 has a 79, and XIII has a 83. Those are average scores, especially compared with other Final Fantasy games.
  15. Homesexuals likely wouldn't be open about how they met their partners in the 40's since prior to the 60's it was illegal to be gay. It would be bad statistics as the number of openly gay couples would increase from the 60's until now.
  16. This is relevant:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf9V0hwJ6qk
  17. I think Uptown Funk was the best song nominated. Such an awesome funk song unlike anything else released this year. While Bruno Mars sung the vocals it's actually a white guy who made the song. But Funk is undeniably a "black" genre so you might be right. Agreed, He still won best rap album which is something but it's a shame he couldn't win the main prize.
  18. To Pimp a Butterfly was an amazing album that should have won, but I guess Taylor Swift isn't too bad. At least he still got a few awards. Also, Uptown Funk rightfully won Record of the Year. Such a catchy song.
  19. That is true. As I said, the game is playable. But saying it is a good port is a lie. It lacks many features expected of a PC game and has very poor performance for such an old game. Half-assed port by Square Enix.
  20. I'm basing it entirely off my own experience with the game. Arkham Knight ran like crap (before the patches) but it never crashed or anything for me. FFXIII crashed a few times and lacked basic PC features expected of games. Running at 30fps is fine but the stuttering was horrible. At least Arkham Knight was eventually fixed and I could run it at a steady 60fps most of the time. For a port of a 5+ year old game FFXIII was horrible. Here is someone else's analysis of the stuttering issues of FFXIII: http://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-xiii-and-xiii-2-port-analysis-durantes-verdict/#page-2
  21. It would be very surprising if this didn't get a sequel. Unlike other Nintendo IPs such as Metroid, Splatoon sold very well (more than 4 million). A Splatoon sequel would be a good launch title for the NX.
  22. It probably happens to you but you just don't notice it... It is well documented that FFXIII has issues. This port isn't the worst I've ever played, though, it was slightly better than Arkham Knight. Did you figure out what your GPU is? It should be pretty easy to check whether your computer could run it using the website I linked before
  23. I've played Re:Birth 1 on Steam and I enjoyed it. Don't know when I'll play another one since it seems a lot of material is recycled. Is Hyperdevotion Noire or Neptunia U worth playing? They seem a bit different to Re:Birth 1 so might try those if you think they are good.
  24. It's playable. The game stutters quite a lot and there are many annoying aspects of the port. I would say it's a bad port but the game itself is fun once you get through the 20 hour tutorial. This site is useful for figuring out if you can run a game: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=3513&game=Final%20Fantasy%20XIIIYou know your CPU but you just need to find out what your specific GPU is.
