This is where it gets a little confusing and probably where they needed to be a little bit stronger on the story side. It doesnt really fit together and they threw this game together so fast that they may have not been able to explaine this. I think the point we are ment to see its that somehow even though Riku was in Sora's dream he was unlocking the keyholes of Sleep and gained the power to wake a sleeping heart.
