Have you played BBS? Vanitas is an entity made from Ven's dark side of his heart. The reason for this is because Master Xennohart (sorry if I cant spell it) Wanted to use Ven as a new vessel for his body at first, but when Ven refused to release the dark part of him. Xennohart decided to take matters into his own hands and used his keyblade to unlock Ventus's darkside aka Vanitas. In the process it damaged his heart and made him go into a coma like state. Blah Blah Blah he sent Ven to Destiny Island, Ven entered his own sanctuary and met the new born heart Sora. Sora told Ven he would help him live until he reunited with his lost heart "Vantias" if you fight Vanitas in Ven's sanctuary he will tell you since the X-Blade was made from Ven's heart, if Ven destroyed it he would die. Ven destoryed it and went in a coma like state again there

Well considering that thanks to beating Vanitas in BBs it resulted in fixing his heart. So yeah im sure he can hate someone
