Sora's Little Helper, the Bell doesn't double it, it just adds a 1.5 multiplier.

No, it can't. The only way to evolve an Eevee into an Umbreon is to max out his happiness and level it up during the night.

I don't remember other people dying that way, but there are a lot of deaths.

Just giving it a Bell doesn't max out his happiness level, you need to raise it yourself. The Bell just helps you.

The anime isn't bad, but the plot after the first arc is completely different from the manga and far more stupid. I suggest you read the manga, which is quite good.
