Yeah you're right, personal tastes. For me I was expecting something else. His hair doesn't even spike up it just turns red and his eyes turn red. It pretty disappointing, but you like it and that's great for you.
So all his other forms can look cool, but when it comes to the ultimate super saiyan form he just gets red hair and eyes.

First image is Goku in his Super Saiyan God form. Red hair, red eyes and sparkly Gold aura. The last picture is Super Saiyan God Goku in the Japanese arcade game, Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale. In all honesty I was expecting it to be more crazy than just red hair and eyes.
