I'd say get an adblock: Chrome has good one's for free that block pop ups and bad sites. You can also manually block ads or new tabs off sites. Might prevent that from happening, since those scam sites can screw you over good.

Well, it was awhile ago: I clicked on my profile, and a new tab opened, setting off my virus scanner.

It did it to me, once. I block a lot of scripts on here as a safe guard.
