Does such a console "arcade" really exist?

Posted

Does anyone here know if such a place exists where they have different consoles to let you use there if you bring you're own game?

Like let's say you want one game but don't want to buy the whole console so you go to this one place that let's you use the devices there to play your games and also save your progress. Almost like a library computer. If such a place exists please tell me what its called if you know!

Don't think so. Rental stores like Blockbuster are almost entirely gone now, so that's out of the question. Plus, this doesn't sound like a business that'll be successful.

Uh, try your local youth/recreation center I guess? That's kind of a niche thing you're describing there, sorry to say. The only chance of that ever happening, at least to me, would be if it was being practiced at an already established arcade, as an addition to all of their other devices, like traditional and new arcade style games. I don't think it would make enough money on it's own. The closest thing to what you're looking for that you would be more likely to come across would be if a local youth center, recreation center, library, etc. had several game systems set up for people to play on for certain amounts of time. My youth center had that set up, and they even had a few games on hand for people to borrow for their allotted time too, and you could even bring your own system as well. If your local center doesn't do that though, maybe request or propose it? Get your friends and peers involved, see if they're interested, and maybe get some signatures to show that there is interest in town for having something like that available to local youths (I'm sure most parents would be pleased with the social aspect of their kids going somewhere to hang out with other kids rather than just staying cooped up in home all the time). That's going to be a much more likely scenario than hoping an actual business for that kind of thing exists today.

Huh, you know I don't know. Back where I used to live there was a new library built a few years before I moved. Very modern, sheek and all. Was a "franchised" sort of library they were spread out all across a county or two. Maybe more. And they had a little social & video game lounge area. Don't know if you could bring your own games there to play though. But you could try some sort of place like a youth center like Hero of Light suggested. Or a friend's place or a friend of friends place if they have their own console(s).

There is sort of a place like this that I had visited in Wisconsin. You pay by the hour to play, but you have access to almost every console in their gaming center. They had lots of games for you to choose from to play, but honestly I doubt that they would mind if you played your own. Unfortunately I only ever saw this when I visited Wisconsin and haven't encountered this in any other state. My guess is that there's other locations like this, though, if you look hard enough.

However, depending on the length of the game that you're playing, I'm not sure it would be very cost efficient. If the game is 30 hours long and you pay by the hour you might be spending $150 (assuming it's $5 per hour) which may not be worth it in the end.
