So It Seems Dissidia FF NT Takes Place AFTER The PSP Games

Posted

The PlayStation 4 version of Dissidia Final Fantasy has the story and world-view of the arcade version of the game. Again, there won’t be a mode that’s just for the story, as the versus mode is still the main attraction for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. Think of it as a story that unravels on its own as you go through battles.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s story takes place far after the events of the battle from the PSP games. That said, it’ll help players understand why the battle of gods continues on arcade even though its story was thought to have wrapped up on PSP.

Since it’s a continuation of the PSP games, the characters won’t be meeting each other for the first time. In the PSP Dissidia games, all the characters lost their memories from their respective titles and arrived to this world, but this time they’ll all have their memories from their Final Fantasy games as well as their memories of the events that transpired in the PSP games. Furthermore, most of the characters are in the condition they were at the end of the original games.

As for cloud from Final Fantasy VII, it’ll be the cloud after the events of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. For this reason, Cloud and some other characters will have different outfits in their stories from what we see them sporting in the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy. Both arcade and PS4 versions of the game take place in the same world. There will be a proper explanation as to why players are fighting in the arcade version.

Everything from playable characters, stages, EX Skills available in the arcade version will be available on the PS4 version at launch. And of course this doesn’t mean Square Enix will neglect the arcade version, as it’ll still get updates first and will arrive on the PS4 version after some time passes for each update.

While battling is the main attraction of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, they’re making it into a game that can be played by those who aren’t the best at versus games. You’ll also get to choose the CPU difficulty, as well as rules that give it more of  party game feel and can only be done on PS4.

So yeah the story of Dissidia FF NT takes place after the events of the PSP Dissidia games which I find to be pretty interesting. This actually makes me kinda glad that this isn't a reboot of the PSP Dissidia games. I wonder if the characters will mention Cosmos and Chaos since all the FF heroes and villians are kind of fighting for the same reason again like they did with Cosmos and Chaos?

So now it's actually a proper sequel? FINALLY! I mean, I appreciated 012's prequel story and everything, but it's kind of hard to hang onto that when literally the rest of the game is just the first story with better interface and gameplay. It's great to finally be pushing this story forward, and letting everybody keep their memories as well! It sounds like it's getting a really satisfying setup so far. I can still hold out hope for particular characters maybe being added someday, but I'm not going to drag this topic down that pit again anytime soon, so I'll just leave it at that for now. Let's just hope they do everything possible to make this Dissidia the most awesome and definitive FF crossover experience ever, at least 12 times better than the original 2!

Oh, great... Advent Children Cloud, my favorite version of the character... at least that's just in story mode, I guess.

Interesting take on the sequel. though I do wonder why the characters retain their memories of their original world? what does that have to do with the narrative of Dissidia?

Ooh, this is an interesting bit of news! I was under the impression that this Dissidia was a total reboot, but I'm glad this isn't the case, since it'll actually be a continuation of 012! That's awesome!

That being said, I wonder how the story will play out now that things are different and now that there are different gods aside from Cosmos and Chaos? :O

The more I hear about the game, the more I feel like I am going to dislike it.

And if Cloud is post-AC, that could mean Cecil is probably post TAV... *sigh*
