My parents have been complaining a lot about me lately. Mostly about my academics.

I have this 17 year old brother, the oldest of four. He gets straight A's, he's top in the school, and is aiming to be a brain surgeon.

I, the second born, live in his shadow.

I have talents, but I'm not convinced that they will get me into college.

My parents are always saying how Art and Graphics aren't good things to go into.

They want me to be a doctor, like my brother.

It hurts that I can't be smart like him.

It hurts that when I try, I am not good enough.

It hurts that I let my parents down when that Report Card comes.

And it hurts that even when I try my hardest and I get a B+, my parents aren't satisfied.

I wish I could be more and be the person they want me to be.

To be a person that doesn't let them down.

Sometimes I want to cry about it.

Sometimes I do.

But other times, I try harder.

I may not get straight A's, but one B+ isn't far from it,

...Right..?

:/ I know how you feel.

My parents are the same way, except I'm the oldest and they want me to set a good example.

Do the best you can, and if you're parents aren't satisfied then it doesn't matter. As long as you know you tried your best, then whatever grade you get should be enough.

Be what you want and tell your parents that you want to live your own life, not someone else's

kinda reminds me about my brother collin, he gets straight A's while I always get lower, its frustrating. My parents don't really care what i do as long as I go to college, you're parents sound harsh, maybe you should get you're brother to convince them to let you do you're own thing, since they'll obviously listen to him.

My big brother is on their side. He thinks I don't try enough.

Hinako, I've actually argued about that. They keep telling me I can be who I want, but they hve a funny way of supporting that..

Your parents shouldn't pressure you to become something you don't wanna be. They shouldn't pick your career for you...

Sure, you may not be smart like your brother, but do you want to be just like him? Or be unique?

Some people get low grades because the work is to easy for them... if it's any consolation.

I want to be my own person. However, they are convinced that it's not a good kind of person.

That last sentence doesn't make sense ._.

Just follow the route you want to follow. That, in the end, is the only real option anyways. You can't let your parents chose your path and you can't stay under that shadow all the time. Just follow what you do best, not something that is far from your limits. Practice, try, and attempt to work things out. Continue living life and whatever else may come with it. That is, if you like how your doing with your more creative elements. You don't have to change for other people. Keep the state of mind you cherish and go with the floooow. You don't have to be a doctor to be successful in life. All you have to do is veiw the world the way you do, and try and find those small openings for you whenever you can. I hope things do work out for you in the future, and don't feel bad about it. Recent lessons have told me to act positive and be strong durring these situations. Speak up. Don't just keep to yourself through all of this.

You don't have to change for anyone but yourself. It dosen't matter if anyone else sees you as good or bad, its all on you.

Thanks -V-.

That really made me feel better.

In comparison to you, I totally fail at advice. xD

Ignore whatever I say in these threads, please. xD

if I learned anything about parents while growing up, it's that you have to tell them who you are. If you don't assert what you want out of life they will set up goals for you.

Your brother gets straight A's? well good for him, it does not mean you have to live up to his standards.

Put your foot down, tell them who you are and who you want to be, dont live up to their standards, live up to yours.

That advice sounds pretty good.

How didn't I see this earlier? D8<

Don't care what they say. I'm second born, too, and people compare me to my oldest brother all the time. You need to sit down and tell them straight--you're not like him, and you're not going to try to be like him. I think you're absolutely fine the way you are. <3

I know how you feel

I pass exactly through th same problem, the difference is that I have no talents at all xD and that my yunger brother is comparedto me,always have good grades, and he has the talant o drawing. Ihave nothing that my parents can support...

but anyways, aseveryone said, just, be who you are and do whay you're good at

after all, what does job or money means if you're unhappy with what you're doing?
