KH2: Unknown enemy in the Secret Ending #1 (The Gathering)

Posted

As you all know, the Secret Ending #1 of Kingdom Hearts 2 called "The Gathering" shows Terra standing above a defeated enemy, then the enemy vanishes in sand through the air.

Until today its form has not yet been revealed, I assume this was a preliminary or discarded version because I compared the full list of heartless, nobodies and unversed, and even making a mix, none fits (like the Xemnas King or Xemnas Centaur).

I spent around 12 hours to clean the frame in the best way I could, and I share the result if someone want to keep the image in original quality or discuss about it.

Maybe one day somebody will ask Nomura in an interview about all the concepts or artworks discarded from the games.

I always thought it was Xemnas's dragon from the final battles.

Do you have a screen shot of Xemnas' dragon form from the final battle to compare and contrast it with this?

The part Terra is standing on kinda looks like one of the turbines, and in front looks like one of the claws. I could also mention, when that ending was made, it wasn't intended for a prequel game, but a sequel, which would make sense for the dragon to be there, as well as Sora Riku and Mickey's Keyblades. It wasn't until the KH2 Final Mix that they decided to make it a prequel.

Hmm, you know something?  I never took notice of this before! It is quite peculiar that Terra was standing on this unkown enemy's corpse! Like you said, it's most likely that this was just preliminary work, as it did not end up being in Birth By Sleep proper, ya know?  Most members above me seem to agree on the theory that suggests that this is Xemnas's dragon form, so it could be the case!

Now that you mention it, it would be interesting to ask Nomura about this one day!

Probably an Idea that they had Until it was scratched because of time reasons.

I do wonder where that corpse came from anyways.  Why did Xemnas decide to use it for his dragon form?

For me the arms with the ball and spikes resembles to the Guard Armor, Red Armor or Trinity Armor, but there is also wheels with more spikes and the claws in the ground (none of the enemies in the games fit with this design). I do not see relation with Xemnas Dragon in any way.

I mean, the body looks like some type of armored boss.

Some of the armored bosses look very similar to this.

Yes, I know. And "The Gathering" was conceptual (officially confirmed), in that moment Nomura had not even created the face of the characters.

The thing is that the enemy has a real form but we can not see it because it is lying down and the camera focuses on the ground for the "epicity".

The reason of the thread is more as a reminder in case the bell rings some day and someone can interview Nomura regarding past developments.

Huh, it does look like the Guard Armor variety of Heartless. Maybe it could have been a new variation of said Heartless, ya know? Or maybe the original conception for the Trinity Armor Unversed? :O

Anything is possible, but my hopes to know it are very low.

The problem with this is:

1. When magazines interviewed Nomura in the past, he could not reveal answers about "future things" due the spoilers of the plot.

2. And today that we are in that "future" we can't get answers either because nobody will ask him about "past things".

We are stuck in a paradox.

I have no clue what this enemy was when I first saw it and still don’t. It looks like something completely new to me. Maybe it was just content for the secret episode alone because even today we don’t know what it is.

A very interesting paradox, to say the least! A loop of unknown answers, if you will! Maybe we'll find out, maybe we won't, ya know?
