During Square-Enix Presents, a lot of interesting gameplay was shown. One thing that was shown that I don't think anyone expected was footage from a boss fight. After seeing this brief footage, I have a quick theory. If you don't want the boss spoiled at all, leave now. You have been warned.
Surprisingly, we got some footage of the boss fight against Aqua! I was even more surprised when it was revealed that Sora is the one who fights Aqua in the Realm of Darkness! The boss fight looks like it will be almost exactly like the boss fight against Phantom Aqua in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 and takes place on the surface of the water! This made me think of the brief look we got at a cutscene of Sora reaching underwater to grab Aqua's hand in the TGS Big Hero 6 trailer. I think that after we defeat Aqua, we will save her, and that cutscene we saw of Sora grabbing Aqua's hand will follow this boss fight. Then, those cutscenes we see of Vanitas in the Land of Departure probably take place sometime after that. If this is true, this also means that Aqua will not be one of the seekers of darkness. However, I still think that at least one of the Wayfinder Trio will be a seeker of darkness, and I think that person will be Terra (Ventus might become a seeker of darkness too, but at least Terra will be one).
I have always thought that one of the Wayfinder Trio will be a seeker of darkness. However, thanks to some of the brief glimpses at cutscenes that we got in the TGS Big Hero 6 trailer, I wasn't sure if it would be Terra or Aqua. Now, thanks to this boss footage that Square-Enix revealed, I am pretty sure that Terra will be a seeker of darkness and not Aqua, and after thinking it over a little bit more, I think that Terra being a seeker of darkness makes sense.
At the beginning of the TGS Big Hero 6 trailer, we see Young Xehanort declare a checkmate against Young Eraqus with a chess piece that has a symbol on it that most closely resembles the Keychain on Terra's Ends of the Earth Keyblade. However, if Terra is still a vessel for Xehanort, why was Master Xehanort the one who returned a complete person and not Terra-Xehanort? I think that Terra did manage to escape from Xehanort's control like he told Xehanort he would, but Xehanort decided to get him back. We hear Young Xehanort tell Sora in the Toy Story trailer, "There is a darkness we are missing and must reclaim. The way hearts connect in this world can provide a clue." The word "reclaim" implies that this particular darkness was once one of them but is no longer. Maybe Young Xehanort was talking about Terra? If this is true, then by the looks of that chess piece, Xehanort may have succeeded in making Terra a seeker of darkness again.
So, I guess this ended up being two quick theories. What do you guys think?
