Hmm I think a lot of fans that always thought KH2 improved on KH1 are kinda in shock at how KH3 is essentially an overall downgrade

Fans that tend to favour KH1 don't seem all that surprised and look at KH3 more "fairly" I guess?

Well, yeah to me KH2 was a downgrade from 1, so maybe I don't feel much different about 3.

KH2FM is literal perfection

It feels very much like BBS and DDD to me

KH2 feels much more "big" even though it physically isn't

Similar combat, level design is essentially a better version, the org13 and all that

KH3 feels restrained

I guess on a surface level the similarities are there

I think the real issue is that the combat is geared around mobs

Also, the camera is awful for it

i still have issues wih 2FM even though i think it is the peak of KH

It's only really noticeable on crit tho

You know I prefer KH2, but it's just as valid to hold KH1 as the pinnacle imo

It does have aspects that just aren't present in later games

Being centred around mob fights did hurt some of the bosses imo. Even though humanoids are good

As for what you said about KH1, to me being the first I played, that's what I feel should be the "blueprint" for he series, I imagine the same phenomenon for whichever games people start with. Even DDD etc

But I feel more validated because it is the actual first game

KH1 is like marmite

I can't fathom how people play DDD and think "yes. This is okay."
