I just play w/ versatile groups that have a nice variety and type coverage. It's also to show off my creativity.

But yeah, the European circuit was imo pretty good. We had five national events, in UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy, and all of those were free. Hell, every single VGC event across the globe wasfree

And top 8 got an invite and top 4 got a paid invite at all these events

I think they should have left the national structure as it is and held regional events in smaller European countries

It always bothered me how they didn't display nicknames b/c I worked diligently on the nicknames.

But NOOOO

I think there was an incident with a chatot once ?

Which is why we don't see them

But basically that structure was how it was from 2009 to 2014 I think

The incident w/ Chatot involved a Move called Chatter in which a player could record something and Chatter would repeat it. Some people would use profanity so it got banned.

Sky Drop had an issue at one point as well but it was fixed quite fast.

Starting from like in 2015 there was a weird change, because of the introduction of championship points they created a bunch of new types of local events that anyone could host. So if four people turned up you'd get CP.

And suddenly all of the events that used to be free were £40 entry

Darkrai's Bad Dreams was a nightmare.

And UK having nationals is no longera set thing. There's other events sure, but they're all lower level stuff and never with the officiality of the old Nationals

So now we've got a nationals in Manchester or a regional in firetrucking Liverpool that you have to pay at least £35 for

Gale Wings from Gen. VI was broken until they nerfed it in Gen. VII to not be as effective w/o full HP aside from any counter a player could plan out.

It's worse in America, even for regionals they charge like 50 dollars standard

Vgc numbers are actually decreasing

The VGC kids are growing up and there may be less fresh blood these days.

Well, fresh blood that is willing to participate, I mean.

It's bad enough travelling and potentially booking hotels to play in a tournament but to do it where you have to pay an entry fee more expensive than the game you're playing? It's a firetrucking farce

I was 12 when I went to my first event, I can guarantee that if it wasn't free I'd never have gone

That admission cost is quite a turn off.

I guess the games now cost more than the entry fee now.

The good thing about vgc tournaments is that you never had to be good at the game and you could turn up with a bunch of your friends and have fun playing seven rounds of pokemon at least
