Personally speaking, P5 especially does a stellar job of showing everyone's growth through the main story. The confidant link just shows more of their background that makes you care more.

Haru is the only link that failed for me tbh

Because I liked her link a lot, but the main story does not reflect it naturally

I also think it's a matter of not having every thing relate to the main story. Like the Mementos Requests. I like how the links and side content are cut out of the main story's section so to speak. Makes them feel more individual and less like a cohesive mess.

Yeah, I gotta disagree with that part. Everyone got a time to shine in their dungeon and then completely ignored after that except for Makoto who is the writers pet and got more than the others with Futaba right behind. And although the confidant stories are supposed to show the characters more, it still did jackshit with a lot of them, Makoto included in that one. How is her focusing on a faceless friend that's just an asshole that turns nice at the last minute a good story to tell for her.

I don't want the confidant stories to be completely separate. I just spent ages trying to learn more about them and max them out and all I get from it is either choosing the girls to be romantic or not and the guys just outright ignored everywhere else in the main story.

I mean, the upgrades are nice, and so is the new Personas they get

But now that I am invested in their stories

For them to be completely useless in the grand schemes of things just makes it a waste of time more than anything

As an example they can do, if you don't max out Ryuji's confidant, he's still an asshole. Max it and he's more humble

You just need small changes

Show that the characters progressed

And are not just ignored after everything you did together

How about in Ys VIII when you were doing the castaway sidequests because even Laxia, Dana and the others give you their own requests as well. But ultimately they are never referenced or reflected in the main story

So while I did hate that, my expectations were not that high for it

Persona on the other hand I expected something different

Ignored isn't the word I'd use for it. I loved the quests in Ys VIII personally.

Because everyone and their mothers were raving about the confidant stories

If the quests in 8 weren't in, I'd have a far lesser opinion of it. Same with Persona titles

I am not saying to ditch the confidant stories

That's a horrible idea

My point is to implement them into the main story when you finish them

Do something more with the characters then

The confidant stories were handled superbly well I thought. I don't think they have to be implemented in the main story personally. That's a mess waiting to happen.
