there are a couple of mechanics the game doesn't tell you about

nahh there's nothing like that

the one mechanic you should be aware of is character affection

star ocean 4 is the first game where you have a fixed party, in the prior 3 games you had to recruit people and not everyone was able to stay in the party

so 4 is simpler in that respect

but all of the party members have affinity towards the MC which impacts some scenes and the ending slightly

and you can get them all in one playthrough
