Well, that's kind of a fundamental flaw right there, if you ask me. KH is Sora's story, beginning to end.

I'd agree with that too

Especially with the level of importance they love to give him haha

Like I love Days and CoM plot
Xion is one of my favorite chars in the whole series

But I can't deny what I said above after all for that reason that you bring up

Well that's exactly why I'm torn. The Days trio is super well-written, even if they are fundamentally pointless.

It boils down to the main flaw of KH
It handles characters Sooooo weirdly

CoM and Days have Soooo much character dialogue and development

Which are all well paced out that you just don't see in any of the console games
KH1 comes the closest

A lot of characters in KH are stuck in this weird limbo of being important and unimportant simulataneously

Always been my biggest criticism. I really wish Nomura would just swallow his pride and hire a screenwriter already to translate his ideas better.

Or at least got his whole writing team to look at not over burdening a story with so many characters if you can't handle it

The Trails series does this relatively will but that's a turn based game so you have room to do character dialogue and interaction

KH wants to not only make gameplay super accessible

But it has to do a hybrid Disney story with FF notes in it

With characters that have odd dialogue choices

I would say that the fact that there's minimal story beats in MOM is a sign that he's learning restraint? But honestly who can tell.

KH for sure is entering a new Era going forward, I think that's a sentiment shared around the globe
What happens in that Era will make or break that series tbh

As nice as gameplay is, you need that story to pace the main game

Lest you end up like Souls where it's all gameplay and the lore is something you gotta hunt for in subtle cues and what nkt

I'd go a step further and say that the story is what makes the gameplay so compelling in the first place. Fighting against everyone means nothing if you haven't formed an emotional connection with them, and in my opinion, the Roxas fight in KH2 is proof of this. It's not a pleasant fight, yet it's still very powerful.

Agreed!

I mean, look at all the Riku fights in KH1

Or the Keyblade Graveyard fights in KH3

The underlying story helps add impact to the fights

Idk but that makes me think of the riku fight in recoded

A bit obscure but still fits your message

It's for this reason, that I've been of the opinion that KH would not work in a medium other than video games. Or at the very least, wouldn't work anywhere near as well.

Also using rikus theme as the fight themewhenthedarknessisjustright

Data fights and crit and level one and all that jazz is great and all
But let's be honest, that all came after the player had been invested in what was going on to stay within that game and learn it more

Also all of the Riku vs Ansem fights

Damn there are alot of fights that have a bunch of emotional value to them and most of them aren't even final bosses imo

But like Sora fighting Ansem is one thing but Riku fighting Ansem means so much more on a emotional level

It's the part of KH people forget
Having FF in the crossover is more than just FF chars and themes
