Agreed, too much was changed from the original

Ya know what, what is the symbolism of Void Gear?

"Brightcringe" Would have been a better roast.

TRUE (but it might have to do with the fact that Vanitas is like my fav character)

You two will get along swimmingly

I was gonna do that but I wanted to be different

It's better to die original than live as a faker 😔

Sometimes discord features are good

Well snake, your own creation has been used against you, how do you feel

The two biggest meanings of "void" are "not binding/invalid" and "empty". Which does represent, in a literal sense, of Vanitas's existence as an empty shell of emotions caring the fragments of the husk Ventus was.

"Gear" name and gear imagery is a physical representation of him being one of the first cogs Xehanort aquired to achieve his insane plan to reenact the Keyblade War by splitting a person in half to forge this weapon. Equal part Light and Dark.

The chains on Void Gear represent Vanitas's lack of freedom and autonomy in two ways:
1.) showing he's under Xehanort's apprentice and being forced to participate in his own destruction and also
2.) showing his lack of freedom and choice in expressing his personhoos and relation with Ventus without being cast away or killed because of the prejuidice aganist Darkness and Dark Weilders.

The double Gazing Eye is another way of symbolizing a lack of autonomy as he is connected to Xehanort and MoM through being bequethed a Keyblade that might not even be "real" on the case it's a Keyblade forged in darkness.

Also, the muted color palette shows he kinda bathes in the darkness bc not even other dark characters, such as Terra and Riku, have a Keyblade palette that's so rusted over and muted.

Thank you Exilan

I am a normal Vanitas enjoyer.

FOLLOW UP:

The double Eyes could also be, and this is me speculating, that Void Gear was a Keyblade that was forcibly bequethed to Vanitas since it was Ventus who got the original Wayward Wind and Xehanort REALLY needed a student with a Keyblade. Which could also be given to Vanitas when Xehanort stuck his wrinkly, old man hands into Vanitas and put a piece of his heart inside his, which why his eyes are firetrucking florescent yellow in the first place.

Again, speculation.

thisguy

Goddam flourescent yellow.

So anyway, that's the symbolism of Void Gear.

Thank you for listening.

That's a raw line

And one I'm writing down

IT'S MY LIFE LINE.

IT'S MY REASON FOR LIVING,
