man I miss old KH

I don’t really have that much of a divide in my mind between “new” and “old” KH

Because I played it all back to back in the span of 3 months

To me the divide comes down to pre-BBS and post-BBS with BBS itself being an awkward middle

I love BBS ngl

Shit I only got a ps4 and played the series in early 2018, and I think I can safely say I prefer where I felt like things were going pre-bbs

I beat BBS first time in 3 days during a vacation

That was last year lol

Pre-BBS was a lot more focused on raw emotion and symbolism to deeper themes, there was still a story but that was largely character driven.

BBS is a weird game because even though there's still emotional aspects to it, it feels a lot more based on raw plot and nonsense

And then DDD fully dives into plot nonsense and KH3 has to pick up the emotional slack (spoiler alert: it doesn't)

But regarding KH3, there were many moments where it felt like someone was holding a "please feel sad" sign instead of the execution of the moment getting that reaction out of me

I find it funny how KH fans are some of the most passionate people I know while also hating 90% of the franchise

I don't hate any part of the franchise tbf

I mean, I hate Re:CoM because of its terrible gameplay

The whole idea to me that the letter from the end of KH2 turned out to be Coded is a super firetrucking bummer to me too as a whole, like I would’ve genuinely rather they have had the prequel stuff with bbs, cool that’s fine, whatever. When you then re-enter present day events and it just turns out to be DDD, 7 years later from KH2 having been out, with such a solid conclusive outro while having a cliffhanger, it really just strikes a nerve of confusion in a lot of ways

it's only cause KH1 and KH2 are so tight and have a progression
