November 12, 201014 yr Author i didn't say 'no americans', i said this thread isnt really for americans, because remembrance day is not their day to remember.
November 12, 201014 yr What's remembrance day? o-o I see the word "Flanders" BD (Looks like Flandres )
November 12, 201014 yr I have never heard of that day .. Must be Canadian, That's explain it! *SHOTDEAD*
November 12, 201014 yr Lest we forget. <3 @Luzze and Ran (I'ma just call you that ) - Remembrance day is where we remember the ones sacrificed in times of war. Specifically World War 1. At 11am on the 11th of the 11th we have a minute of silence, or in some places 2. So.. chyeah.
November 12, 201014 yr It's also my friends birthday so But rememberence day is where everyone takes a minute silence to remember the people who died in the first world war (it's also about the people who died in some of the other wars, but mainly WW1) And it's at 11:00 on the 11 of november, since that's when the war officially ended i think (our school used to have a huge assembly as well as the minute silence but since there were HSC tests that day, or School Certificate, can't remember which it was, but it took up the main hall, so we just had a minute silence in class)
November 12, 201014 yr i put poppy on my backpack most of time it won't go off. There tons of disrespectful kids at are assembly yesterday talking and laughing though 2 mins of silence because are trumpet player was screwing up a want
November 12, 201014 yr i remember when the music teracher from our old school made a really good song out of that poem. i don't know what countries rememberance day effects, although most importantly to england but it was at 11:00 11/11 1918 when the armistice to end the war was put into action between the alliance and the entente. luckily we had none of the d*cks like in our old school who would shout 'poo!' in the middle of the silence
November 12, 201014 yr Author if you dont know what it is, let me introduce to you google.com . i hate kids that do that. at our assembly my friends and i started crying lmao... they sang prayer of the children and we just broke down 3 we're wimps. >: i remember once a couple years ago i was in mcdonalds on 11/11 and once eleven o'clock hit everyone just stopped. someone stopped in the middle of ordering. it was the most beautiful moment ive ever had in a mcdonalds.
November 12, 201014 yr Aw I should`ve been on yesterday to post on the actuall day but better late then never right? Man when I went to public school I used to sing "One Tin Soldier" with some other people in my grade each year. Rememberance Day always makes me sad...
November 12, 201014 yr I think America has something similar called Veteran's Day. They made an assembly about it in my school. Lulz, & don't worry guys; the people that laugh at these kind of things/make fun of it will only get bitten back on their ass. It's called karma. May the Lord have mercy on them.
November 12, 201014 yr Yeah it Veteran's Day for us, we get the day off from school in dedication to veterans, the people that died in war, and all the people currently over seas. It used to be called Armistice Day. Except we don't do the poppies thing >.< (My Grandpa is also a WW2 veteran) We had a momment of silence today at school since there was no school yesterday.
November 12, 201014 yr Author i think your equivalent would be more of memorial day tho, wouldnt it? idkkk. theres no exact equivalent because you guys came into wwi so late, but as for remembering i guess it would be either veteran's day or memorial day. not trying to start up a discussion/argument on america in wwi btw. i dont care to see it in this thread lol.
November 13, 201014 yr Yeah it Veteran's Day for us, we get the day off from school in dedication to veterans, the people that died in war, and all the people currently over seas. It used to be called Armistice Day. Except we don't do the poppies thing >.< (My Grandpa is also a WW2 veteran) We had a momment of silence today at school since there was no school yesterday. we have a 2 minute silence... YOU HAVE A DAY OFF SCHOOL???? no fair, more english people died DX btw, verteran day you dedicate to the people who survived the war, but rememberance day is for the people who died.
November 13, 201014 yr Author theres isnt for wwi tho, its for some other war. or maybe not even a war, just for veterans.
November 13, 201014 yr theres isnt for wwi tho, its for some other war. or maybe not even a war, just for veterans. oh... still, if they're going to make a day for veterans... DON'T DO IT ON REMEMBERANCE DAY it's almost disrespectful to the people who died
November 25, 201014 yr we americans sometimes do that on september 11th. yet we don't all do it. some people (like me) forget to be silent.
November 27, 201014 yr Author completely different chaos, thats for the terrorist attacks. we're silent too for that sometimes.
November 29, 201014 yr Ah, but you see, the point is to remember the lives lost on 9/11, and i also think we may have something like it for WWII, so i would assume the holidays are not too different.
December 1, 201014 yr Author 9/11 =/= wwi. its simple as that. im not trying to argue, its a fact; they're different days of remembrance altogether. as for your remembrance day, read the first two pages.
December 1, 201014 yr Agreed yes, but my point was WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SILENT. thats all, the actaul activitys taken place on said days are similar. regardless of what it was for, both days ask you to shut your trap for one minute and remember something. so many more people died in WWI, not counting the bodys that got trampled and buried in the trenches. 9/11 was probably like the CIA or something trying to scare the population into thinking we actually have some kind of terrorist threat, so they can "increase security" and become even more powerful. Like i said, we just shut up for 1 minute on a specific day. what we remember is totaly different, but we still have to shut up.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
