Witcher 3 and all these other mainstream games have all a really bad open world, because the maps are so static and predictable

There's also barely anything of note happening in them

I really hope they make sth linear

Not open world but I still want them to replicate the feeling of when you step out of Migar in the original

or in the style of Dark Souls

Dark Souls has probably the best "linear" open world I have ever seen

In terms of world design i think X did it best

The calm lands exist, but every area felt unique despite being linear

Unlike say 13

Which feels very samey most of the way through

13 had nothing to explore. 10 in comparison had all this cool shit like secret treasures and minigames for the Best in Slot weapons

7 remake feels pretty similar to 13 except they added in towns

in terms of map design

They also added cut content from the original into Royal at least one area I've seen

I would also consider the narrative of Shadowbringers as one of the best narratives in all Square Enix games
