An implementation of mechanics typically typical to RPG's made in Japan such as stat and equipment managment

It differentiates from Western RPGs in that while WRPGs have all that they focus more on a in-your face in depth narrative and more action focused

from my experience, JRPGs aIso tend to have a higher eIement of strategy and some IeveI of pre-pIanning

Death Stranding is (not) an RPG but there are things like equipment and health/stamina management

Kingdom Hearts is a JRPG because it utilizes action elements of character driven action games a la DMC and No More Hero's but, it's rooted in its equipment and magic roots too.
