I've been on some other websites where there are a few groups called "Clans".

 

In a nutshell, you apply for a clan, if you're accepted you can be part of it (dur). There'll be yearly/monthly/ect. competitions between the clans, with contests such as "Roleplaying Contest", "Sketching Contest", "AMV Contest", "Debate Contest", ect. The clan will elect or two people to represent them. Each clan has a leader and a co-leader.

And how would you know that, "fool"? You can't exactly look into the future & know what's going to happen.

Yeah I agree with you MasterXemnas. Besides, just to be safe, we could put a rule that said something like:

"Under threat of ban from the clan, the elements of the clans are prohibited from having violent argues or fights with elements from other clans."(which means you fight or argue and you're out of your clan, no buts, no whats)

Then people might get offended if they're not accepted into a particular clan, start throwing around accusations that no one likes them, etc. etc. etc.

fool. That can happen with anything. I'm saying it's not going to happen just because clans exist. People in clans may cause problems, hence, the root of the problems are the peoples and not the clan itself.

Eh, good point. I was kinda hopeful that everyone would be mature about the clans by not complaining if they were or weren't accepted. It's supposed to be a bonding expirience, but I guess it could probably lead to fights as well.

 

As guillus said, we could always instate some kind of rule against the fighting. It would already be a given, but there could be punishments like getting kicked out of the clan. The clans are supposed to be equals, so none are supposed to be any better.

Can there be an Atlas clan?

In another forum I am on they have clans and they work pretty good. Though, this is the forum of a gaming company, and they are much more strict with the rules (and have way more) than they are here. Also, they have many more members *opens new tab* 170,996 of them currently. I am not sure how well clans will work here being that this is a small forum. Even in the other forum I am talking about, some clans aren't that active (really, only the fan-made clans are active, all the official ones are next to dead.) So in this forum, I could really see this being hit or miss.

 

On to the next part of the subject. I can see that some of you are concerned that clans may cause fighting. In my personal experience (again on the forum I mentioned earlier) I have seen no hostilities between clans at all. The only thing that comes close is a rivalry between 3 (which are official clans in one of the games the company that owns the forum makes) and even then they normally don't show hostilities. They do however get to duke it out with one another in-game with a yearly three way competition. Besides that, I have never seen any hostilities between clans. However, I will admit that said forum is much more tame than many others you may find, as such, I have limited experience with some things.

 

I am not trying to persuade anyone either way, just trying to give some insight. Would love to post examples n' such if wanted.

Anyways Im sorta neutral on this it could bring us together BUT it can spit us apart it can work either way. But through my expereience when i was younger i was on Toontown Central forums and they had this sort of idea. They would have contests in game on ToonTown. And people would get really close. But once in a while an idiot would go and say wut Demyx said " OMG mah clan is so betterr than urs. and it would break out in hostility.

i just don't like the idea, i see no benefit to clans

If people could, like you said, fight in clans and cause problems, then maybe having clans wouldn't be such a good idea.
