Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Discussion

Recommended Posts

Want to skip mini games? Nah. Want to skip catching Piko again? Nah. WANT TO SKIP OTHER TEDIOUS STUFF? NAH

Even the developers agree that his time here is wasted when they give you that damn option

I didn't want Zack to be alive, and I was anxious as to what his role here was going to be. I love Zack, he's my introduction to Final Fantasy. But dude didn't even have a role here, just a waste of space

Part 1: You Can (Not) Remake

||Ok I'm being completely serious when I say this

At the end of Remake I was kind "disappointed" but, still intrigued in where the story was going cause it set everything up, right?

This game ended, and the final boss* *itself gave me a lot of feelings that I enjoyed feeling. The cutscenes after that though is just

I don't care lol

And what I mean is, I'm not saying I don't care about the characters or story, cause I do

But I wasn't left thinking "oh man i can't wait to see where this goes! I wanna talk to my friends and theorize!" I was just like

"sighs, pinches the bridge of my nose between my index finger and thumb. Alright, whatever man, lol, whatever."
Like tbh? I'm way more intrigued by what they're doing with Rufus, Tseng, and Sephiroth in that order more than I am the main characters currently, and I mean that

The main characters barely develop throughout the game, especially compared to the last game, Yuffie does not talk about what she went through in Intermission so like what was the f'in point of introducing Deepground?? Just the one scene in the Temple of The Ancients??

And like how many times did this exact, no like firetrucking EXACT thing happen:

Cloud freaks out and is on the verge of complete mental collapse, says something weird about the Black Materia, etc etc.

Someone: Cloud? You ok?

Cloud: I'm fine....

And then it was never brought up again.

No one ever pulled Cloud aside no one not even Barret grabbed him by the shoulders and was like "Hey man freaking talk to us you are (not) ok!" They just let it slide like it was nothing EVERY time and they did it in Remake TOO! No one, in this almost 60-90 hour campaign, 150 if we throw in Remake.||

Part 2: You Can (Not) Rebirth

Then there's the God dammed ending. Here's why the ending just elicites apathy from me.

||I've often trolled DaZ how, in the context of kidding around that, "no really FF7R is genius cause they're literally RE* *MAKING FF7!" but thats really what they were doing.

The whole Remake is about defying destiny right? So then what was the point of doing so if you were gonna kill her anyway? Was it just a marketing tactic? An attempt to cruely trick the players? Now yes, to head this off at the pass, you're right. The real answer is, they need part 3, so they need intrigue and mysteries going into it.

BUT WHY DO IT THIS WAY HELLO

That aspect doesn't work because it to me shows Square Enix are cowards, and they aren't allowing Remake to have its own identity; that's the whole reason the Whispers exist, they're cowards. It feels like it was written in this way cause "oh its FF7 we can get away with it, there'll still be passionate defenders and reactors screaming LETS GOOO"

But then the ending is like "is she rrrrrEEEEEEEEAAALLLLLy dead???" And it's like bro- legit, I don't care right now lmao

Aeirth is one of my favorite characters in FF history and dude I mean it when I say I just don't care right now.

This is one of the only times I dislike Square's story telling method. I think it's questionable at best, bad at worse, to 1. Answer ZERO questions from the last game, and 2. End the most iconic moment of the series on another cliffhanger

It feels like they're telling us "ask us what it means! Ask us what it meaaaaans" so you do and it's just "please be excited for part 3 :)"

No Square. Not this time, this isn't like when CC came out in 2006, this isn't like Remake, this isn't like Kingdom Hearts.

And dude I meant it I care way more right now about Rufus the Turks and Sephiroth- they're interesting, they're doing new things, they feel different like they have their own identity.||

"Expectations often lead to disappointments"|| ||yes Vincent I love how the game currently tries to constantly write Cid and you out of the story

||I would have been fine with them saving Aerith IF they committed to it.

But they didn't cause they're cowards.

I would have been fine with them killing Aerith if they committed to it.

But they didn't.||

That's the thing tho

She's coming back

That whole thing with the other worlds and Zack just going through light portals will be the same for aerith.

The end of 13 with Aerith and Cloud's "date" in wherever the firetruck it was is when it started to sour on me. I don't know what they wanted to tell with it and I still don't understand. The whole thing started to become messier as it went on when for some reason white whispers are stopping them and then the black whispers stop them too. And before even reaching that part we have Sephiroth talking about the multiverse in the most stupid way possible and still no answer on how or why it's there other than the Lifestream is supposedly the connection?

And not to mention the Aerith of it all. Her death sucked ass because for one, they didn't give you any time to breathe as they suddenly plunge you into an hour worth of boss fights. Two, the confusing mess did not help with it. I get what they are trying here, they are making the focus on Cloud and his narrative but all it does is take away from Aerith herself and what she went through all on Cloud instead.

Part 3: You Can (Not) Redo.

And then there's firetruck mothering Zack

||why. Was he here. They explained nothing about how that world works, what the gold crack is, and, they basically watered down his character to where now his arc and existence revile completely around Aerith and Cloud

"But Who's to say those worlds.. Couldn't be reunited?" Bro firetruck off lmao

And listen I like Ambiguity in my Storytelling but I'm gonna let y'all in on something

Do you know why Kingdom Hearts works?

Yes each subsequent game does not answer every* question, *but it DOES answer questions, while adding new, unique ones.

What. Was the point. Of "7 seconds to the end."

Rebirth didn't answer shit and if anything these "new questions" are just tack ons to the OLD questions from 4 years ago.

Do I really have to wait for part 3?

Why is Glenn here? Is Aerith dead? Is Cloud dead? Is he between worlds? Can they defy fate? Like give me SOMETHING.

Oh yeah and my "favorite" part"?

I love how they introduce us to multiple worlds and timelines at the end of the last game and do nothing with it until kind of the last boss fight.

And what was the point of not only Biggs living when he just dies anyway but why tease Jessie??? She didn't show up at all.

And in remake they didn't just have her bandana there they made it look like she had been there* *at The orphanage like wtf??

But yeah Zack, I was fine they didn't over use him but they barely used him at all- I'm firetrucked sideways cause I think instead of a Vincent DLC or ANYTHING else it's gonna be a goddamn Zack DLC where we "see more of his side of the story" LIKE NO WHY just put it in the firetrucking game||

I don't even mind most of the stuff here. I get that it's a bit annoying they didn't say much but I didn't mind it. Tifa and Aerith working together by trying to find out what happened to Cloud and piece him back together was a nice addition. I do think in the temple they should have said and done way more though.

Dude really was a waste of space in this game only to be there in a huge fanservice moment and nothing more

I like that little weirdo but I gotta be honest, the game relies on him way too damn much. Everything you do outside of side quests is with him. New materia? Chadley. Lifesprings? Chadley. Hunts? Chadley. Protorelics? Guess what, also Chadley.

I don't even understand why summons are through him now, we are literally able to explore the world

Just have us actually fight him

that's why the next game needs Elden Ring style zones. imagine you explore the world and suddenly you find a big ass 1-2 hour long dungeon where a summon awaits you at the end
